Productive or Just Doing Busy Work In Your Young Living Business

What is your daily routine like? It is a good idea to step back once in a while and think about what you are doing in your business. Are you really doing things that are productive? Things that actually produce INCOME. If you are like me, you started building your Young Living business because you love the products and you can see the potential income. Whether you want supplemental income or you want full time income, it is important to be doing income producing activities on a DAILY basis.

John C. Maxwell said, “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”

It takes consistent, persistent, DAILY work. If you actually intend to generate income, your daily work must be productive, income producing work. It is all too easy to get caught up in time wasting “busy work” that really doesn’t do anything to grow your Young Living business.

habit
Examples of busy work:

Constantly checking email.
Organizing your office.
Studying about the products.
Too much time on Facebook checking and updating your Facebook status.
Talking to the same prospects over and over instead of looking for new prospects.

All of these things are important but they must be focused. Checking email a couple times a day is important but not obsessively. Facebook is a powerful business tool but it can be easy to get drawn down a rabbit hole following links. Studying the products is important but it doesn’t generate income unless you are sharing the info with people.

Income producing activities:

Connecting with people in your daily life: Wear Abundance Oil in your diffuser jewelry
Always prepared with Young Living info to share
Your website and contact info should be on EVERYTHING you hand out.
Place online or offline ads
Write letters
Teaching oil classes
Inviting prospects to your oil classes
Business presentations: Host Webinars, Hangouts, or Use Facebook Live
Write a blog
Make videos
Following up on interest
Helping new members get started

Building Your List – This is an ongoing process. You should always work to grow your list. If you have a blog or a newsletter, you want to grow your list of subscribers. If you have a Facebook Business Page, and you should, you should be growing your list of followers. Your list is a powerful business asset. You must be regularly adding value to the people on your list. Whether email newsletter, snail mail, blog post or Facebook Page, share VALUE: oil tips, recipes and things they will benefit from. Not spamming with your signup link. Value posts will keep them coming back and eventually sign up. I have had people sign up after getting my newsletter for months or even years.

There are lots of income producing activities you can do every day. The important thing is to have a plan and focus on getting several top income producing activities done EVERY DAY.

Are You Building Your Young Living Business Part Time or In Your Spare Time?

How are you building your business? Most of us start out building our business around other things we are doing. That’s the way I started my Young Living career nearly 20 years ago. I saw the potential for working from home and freedom both time and financially.

multitasking2
If you are like me, and had to start building your business around a job, you will need to build your Young Living business part time.

There is something very important you need to keep in mind. The way you approach your business will determine whether or not you are successful. There is a big difference between part time and spare time. If you are building your business in your spare time you will NOT be successful. It’s as simple as that.

When you build your business in spare time, you are putting it’s importance in last place. There will always be things that crowd out the daily tasks. Things just don’t get done. Maybe once in a while you dabble at your business but nothing that is consistent and making forward progress.

If you want to seriously earn an income in with your Young Living business, you MUST get rid of the SPARE TIME approach to building your business. The spare time marketer does the business once in a while when they have some extra time. A strong business is not built that way.

Building your business part time means that you have a schedule. When you have a part time job, you have certain hours you devote to your job. You show up and do the work on schedule. When you apply this principle to your business it becomes a serious, progressive business, even if you are working it part time in the beginning. If you stick with it and work part time instead of spare time, you will get there.

Newton’s First Law of Motion states, “An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion.”

Daily action is how a successful business grows, even if you have to work it part time. The daily action must be income producing action. Keep keep thinking in marketing mindset and have sharing materials with you at all times. Talk with people, use marketing materials, follow up on interest, then help your new distributors do the same. Make a plan and work your plan every day.

Jim Rohn said it best, “I am now working full time on my job and part time on my fortune.”

What Kind Of Impression Are You Making In Your Social Media Pages?

We have all heard the expression, “You never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression!” This is really true when it comes to Social Media Marketing. Your cover photo is important but your personal photo is actually even more important.

Do you have your picture on your profile? You should have a personal photo of your smiling face. Large businesses can use their logo or some other image but you are not a large faceless corporation, you are a professional network marketer. As network marketers, our goal on Social Media is to connect and build relationships with people, then share our love of essential oils. We are also connecting with our team and helping them learn to do the same.
topsecret
You want to be approachable and real. Not a shadowy figure of mystery. You want people to feel they know and trust you. You can help express that with a nice photo head shot with your smiling face. A smile speaks volumes. Your personal profile picture should not be a picture of your kid, pet, your team logo, Young Living products, lavender fields or anything else. You can put those in your cover photo. That also will help people get to know a bit about you, but put it in the cover.

welcomingYou can have a picture of you WITH your pet. That works even better. I don’t know how many times I have had conversations with people about my parrot because I include him in my pictures. Barney has been very helpful in opening dialog with people some of whom, eventually became distributors in Young Living.

Think about the picture you use for your profile. It should be dignified but friendly and approachable. We are in a relationship building business. Your profile picture should be a head shot with your smiling face.

Another reason to consider your profile picture is that it appears in the News feed of your followers, posts on your page’s Timeline, replies in comments. As you spend more time making posts and commenting on other people’s posts, your face will become familiar to people you interact with on a regular basis.

Is Your Business Missing This Important Ingredient For Success?

quote-learning

One thing I have learned in over 20 years in the network marketing profession is that you need to have an ongoing program for personal development. There are many reasons this is important. In the beginning of your network marketing career you need to learn and build confidence.

The world is always changing. There are new tools, technologies and new things happening. You need to keep learning and applying the things you learned to your life and your business.

Another are that personal development helps is motivation. Whenever I feel unmotivated I like to put on an audio book and listen to some of pearls of wisdom. Jim Rohn has always been my favorite but there are lots of good, inspiring books and audios.

Here is a partial list of my favorite books and audios. I have many of these in both book and audio form. I recommend having books in tablet or Kindle for times when you are waiting. You should be able to find most of these books on Amazon.

Are You Sharpening Your Skills?

“You can cut down a tree with a hammer, but it takes about 30 days. If you trade the hammer for an ax, you can cut it down in about 30 minutes. The difference between 30 days and 30 minutes is skills.” – Jim Rohn

Leaders are readers and readers are earners. Even distributors who are already very successful still continue to read books, listen to audios, take online training courses and go to seminars and workshops to sharpen their skills. If you would like a full time income in Young Living, you need to think and act like a professional. Professionals are always sharpening their skills. Are you sharpening yours?

In the beginning network marketing can feel a little out of your comfort zone. If you spend a little time every day reading and listening to audios. Your comfort zone will expand. Attend events, seminars and workshops and you will sharpen your skills even more.

One way to sharpen your skills is to hang around people who are successful in the business. Observe what they do. Listen when they speak. Follow them on Facebook and other social media and observe how they connect with people. Pay attention. You can learn a lot from other leaders in Young Living.

Keep up with things that are going on in the company and with anything that affects your business. It’s no different than any other profession like accountants, lawyers, people in the medical profession, hair stylists, etc. You have to keep up with any changes going on. There are always changes. There are new ways to market and promote your business. Eighteen years ago, when I began building my Young Living business, we did not use social media. Today it is a big part of both business building and training downline. Times change.

Have fun learning, growing and sharpening your network marketing skills.

Time To Update Goals and Business Plans For A New Year

celebrate-successThe time sure flies doesn’t it? Hard to believe it is the beginning of a new year already. This is the time of year that people set new goals for the upcoming year. I’m not one for New Year’s Resolutions. People usually don’t take those seriously, however, I am a firm believer in setting goals and making action plans to achieve those goals.

Every year I look back at the different things that have happened in the year to this point but also in the years prior in my Young Living Career. Reflecting on both the good things that happened and things that weren’t so good. I don’t spend much time on the things that weren’t so good but just enough time to take note of anything I learned or ways I could get a better outcome.

Not only is it important to be regularly analyzing things and improving as we go, it is also important to celebrate the successes of the previous year. Celebrating is really important because it sets a success energy that attracts more good things.

Three Reasons to Reflect on and Celebrate Success:

1. We train our subconscious to be aware and open to success and abundance.
2. We give our subconscious and conscious mind PROOF of our success and progress.
3. It builds self-esteem, confidence and belief in our abilities.

Some things to include in your reflection:

Any successes large and small. Even the things you consider small. Some of these small successes are stepping stones to larger successes.

New things you learned – This is a huge one that people often forget to include. Reflect on all the training you have taken, books you have read, videos & audios and live events you have attended, anything that has been good for growth in your personal development or business skills. Really celebrate this one knowing that training and personal development is the biggest success secret of network marketing professionals who earn full time income.

Don’t forget the things you learned by trial and error. Like when you began learning to write a blog or make a video.

reflecting-on-successThere are lots of things you can add to your list. I recommend writing down your reflections. If you have been following my training for any length of time, you should have this done from previous years and have saved them. If so, take out some of your past years reflections and look at the progress over the years. This is really fun.

Reflecting on the progress you have made builds confidence. When I look back on the shy girl who was terrified to be a leader, I am amazed at how far I have come. It always gets me choked up as I write and reflect on how I have changed. Network Marketing is the best business for personal growth and with Young Living we have awesome oils that enhance progress in many ways.

After you have finished reflecting on the previous year, you can make a plan of action for the next year. What will you do to increase your business? How will you improve on your marketing skills and what will you do to implement. Think about where you want to be at the end of this year. Write that down. Then make a list of all the things you plan to do to get there.

Writing all of this down is very important. It helps you have a direction for the year. Keep a copy of both the reflecting of the previous year and the plan for next year. It is really empowering to look back at the things you have accomplished in the past and how far you have come, especially when you have the notes for several years. You can see your growth over the years which is such a confidence booster.

It is also good to reflect on your WHY. Why you are building this business.

How Do You Respond When Asked “How Are You?”

“I’m doing GREAT and, to my amazement, things just keep getting better!” That is the way an old business associate of mine responded when people would ask, “How are you?” I heard him say it many times during the time I was associated with him.

I loved that response so much I started using a similar version of it. When I first heard it I noticed the lift of energy among the group. His greeting effected everyone, including me.

This was a successful network marketing leader who was radiating a great energy. I thought, “WOW, what a powerful response to a greeting we hear many times a day.”

What are the responses people give when you greet them with, How are you?” Most of the time I hear mid to low energy responses. Maybe you’ll recognize a few of these:

“I’m fine”
“I’m OK”
“I’m good”
“Not so good”
“I’m terrible”
“Still among the living!”
“Surviving”
“As good as can be expected”
“Still breathing”
“I can’t complain … I’ve tried, but no one listens”
“DON’T ASK”
“Fair to middling”

I’m sure you have heard lots of other responses. Some people will even tell you all the horrible things that are going on in their life.

happybusinessman
Think about the principles of the Law of Attraction. What kind of abundance vibration or energy do you want to send out. Are those really the kind of responses you want to use when someone asks “How are you?”

What you speak about comes about. Hmmm.

Wouldn’t it be better to have a response like . . .
“I’m just WONDERFUL!”
“I’m AWESOME!”
“I’m GREAT”
“I’m EXCELLENT”
“FABULOUS!”
“FANTASTIC!”

Here is a funny one I heard recently: “If I were doing any better vitamins would be taking ME!”

Try using really positive energizing words in your response.

Do you want to know a really cool thing that happens when I respond with “I’m just WONDERFUL!” or something similar?

My mood lifts a little each time I say it. Not only that but I can see it effecting the person I am talking to. They pause and smile and you can see them wondering what’s up. I have had people follow me around trying to find out why I was so happy.

Remember: To ATTRACT ABUNDANCE you need to vibrate GOOD ENERGY!!

9 Ways To Build Belief In Yourself and Your Young Living Business

beliefTo be a successful full time business with Young Living, it is crucial that you build belief. You need belief not only in yourself and your ability to get there but you also must believe in the network marketing industry.

Here are a few ways to build belief:

    1. Using the Products – You must believe in the products you are offering otherwise, you’ll never be able to recommend the products to other people.

Let me tell you, a great product experience can work wonders in building belief in your ability to sell it. My product experience is the reason I have built a full time career in Young Living today. Use the products. You’ll have great stories to tell and STORIES SELL!

    2. Attend Events – You should be attending as many Young Living events as you possibly can. Whenever you can get together with other distributors you can learn from each other. Not only learning but energizing each other.

    3. Listen to audios and videos – There are loads of audios and videos put out by Young Living, your upline and other network marketing trainers. Serious network marketers are listening to these trainings as much as possible. The more you listen, the more you will be able to speak up about things that will help other people.

    4. Attend Conference Calls – Listening to and even participating in conference calls is another awesome way to build belief in yourself and Young Living. Conference calls are a great way to learn more and polish up your skills.

There are a lot of conference calls you can access, especially if you are using any of the training on the internet. It is impossible to be on all of them. Usually these conference calls are recorded so you can listen anytime.

    5. Read Books – I know, you already know reading books is important but I am always amazed how few books people actually read. As Jim Rohn said, “The book you don’t read won’t help.”

    6. Subscribe to Newsletters & Blogs – There are loads of blogs and newsletters that you can benefit from. It is particularly important to subscribe to all upline newsletters you can find. You can learn oil tips and business building ideas that will keep you energized and making progress. They also can give you ideas for things to share with prospects and downline.

Also subscribe to newsletters and blogs on marketing, personal development, besides things related to Young Livng. I also recommend subscribing to industry journals like Network Marketing Times Magazine.

    7. Talk to someone who has done it – Find someone in your upline who has achieved what you are wanting to achieve. Talk to them. Learn what they did to be successful. Not only what they did but notice their mindset.

    8. Affirmations – I have been a firm believer in affirmations for a long time. The words you use have power. You raise or lower your energy and belief by the words you use. You can even program yourself and your habits. You can change things you don’t like.

Affirmations can be effective in helping reprogram success habits. Add EFT to your affirmations and watch the changes you can make. I never do affirmations without adding some EFT. It’s powerful. Give it a try.

    9. Visualization – See yourself and feel what it feels like to achieve success in network marketing. Spend a little time each day visualizing and getting comfortable with various aspects of your business. Use the visualization tool to help you get the ideas flowing. I recommend watching it every day.

believe-oilDon’t forget to use Young Living oil blends that help put you in the successful emotional state. An example that fits here is Believe oil. Believe oil blend contains Idaho Balsam Fir and Frankincense essential oils that may encourage feelings of strength and faith. As you are able to move past emotional setbacks and barriers, you will be able to reach your true, unlimited potential.

These are just a few things you can do to build belief. Do something each day to build your belief and success mindset.

Your Attitude Is EVERYTHING!

Lately I have the music from the new Lego Movie rolling around in my head. You have probably been hearing it a lot too. “Everything is Awesome.”

I decided to do a search to see what the words to the song are. The music makes me happy and feel like dancing. When I searched I found a YouTube video so I could hear the words to the full song. The words are very good and just the type of music I like to listen to when I need a motivating mood uplift.

Here are a few words from the song:

feeling-amazingEverything is awesome
Everything is cool when you’re part of a team
Everything is awesome
When we’re living our dream

Everything is better when we stick together
Side by side
You and I
Gonna win forever
Let’s party forever

Even when negative things happen:

Have you heard the news everyone’s talking
Life is good ’cause everything’s awesome
Lost my job, there’s a new opportunity
More free time for my awesome community
I feel more awesome than an awesome possum
Dip my body in chocolate frosting
Three years later wash off the frosting
Smelling like a blossom, Everything is awesome
Stepped in mud, got new brown shoes
It’s awesome to win and it’s awesome to lose

Your attitude affects the energy you are radiating when you talk to people and how they react to what you are saying. People will be more inclined to listen to a person who is radiating a happy attracting energy rather than one that is negative.

Your attitude affects your abundance. It affects your motivation. It affects how you work in your business. It affects everything!

Think about the way you greet people. A while back I wrote the article: How Do You Respond When Asked “How Are You?” I have heard all kinds of negative responses varying from “I’m fine” to “Not so good” or even much worse.

I used to say similar negative responses until I realized how powerful our words and feelings are and how much those things affect our success. Now I say something that will be uplifting to the other person but also to me. The words we use either bring us up or down. Every time we say something negative or complain about something, we are reenforcing that negative feeling in us. Even saying “I am fine” is one I like to avoid. I would rather say, “I am awesome.” Or something similar. Try it. Those words lift you up. Saying “I am fine” is sort of neutral. It does nothing to improve things. People say they are fine when they really aren’t feeling fine. Try saying “I am awesome” when you are in a group where you might get asked that question several times. I always find my mood lifting each time I say it.

Your attitude is very important to the amount of success you will have in your Young Living business. The words you use. The way you react to little set backs. The failures and little set backs are learning experiences. In my 17 years with Young Living I have see so many distributors give up because of setbacks, not knowing how to build their business and various other things that boil down to attitude. The only failure is giving up.

Don’t give up!

We are all different in our marketing styles. There are all kinds of ways to succeed in this business, even for people who don’t feel like sales people. Try different things until you find the marketing that fits your style.

I am reminded of Thomas Edison’s famous quote: “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

Listen to the music, Everything is Awesome” on YouTube.

Don’t give up!

Distributors often look at successful people with Young Living and they see the results they have had and they start comparing their own results or lack of results. Sometimes they assume that the successful people had some magic system or they had a huge marketing budget or they just lucked out and sponsored workers in their downline. Some even put it up to having the right upline.

When you are looking at the successful distributors in Young Living, you need to look at their habits. It’s their daily habits that are the reason they are successful in Young Living.

What are the habits of successful Young Living Distributors?

  • They know they are the CEO of their own business. They know success is up to them. They go by the philosophy, “If it is to be, it’s up to ME.
  • They focus on their WHY. Why they want a successful business.
  • They are prospecting to 10-20 people a day rather than one or 2 a month.
  • They check their email and respond quickly to emails or phone calls.
  • They follow up on interest.
  • They know the importance of DAILY personal development: reading books, newsletters, audios.
  • They attend Young Living Events in their local area or state.
  • They attend Grand Convention.
  • They listen to conference calls and replays of calls when they can’t be on the live call.
  • They are paying attention to company news: Upline newsletters, company newsletters, conference calls, Facebook Groups, etc.
  • They set goals and work toward them.
  • They don’t wait until they know each and every step before they take even one. They just get started.
  • They focus on abundance instead of lack.

Here is a poem I have loved for several years:

habit
I Can Make You Great or I Can Make You A Failure

WHO am I?

Let me give you some clues. Exactly WHO IS ME?

I am your constant companion.

I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden.

I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.

I am completely at your command.

Half of the things you do you might as well turn
over to me and I will do them – quickly and correctly.

I am easily managed – you must be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want something done
and after a few lessons, I will do it automatically.

I am the servant of great people, and alas, of all failures as well.

I MAKE GREAT PEOPLE—-That is a CLUE.

Those who are great, I have made great.

Those who are failures, I have made failures.

I am not a machine though, however . . .

I work with the precision of a machine
plus the intelligence of a person.

You may run me for profit or run me for ruin –
it makes no difference to me.

Take me, train me, be firm with me, and
I will place the world at your feet.

Be easy with me and I will destroy you.

Who am I?

I am HABIT.

January is always an exciting month. It’s a new year and lots of people have set resolutions to increase income and make other changes in their life. It is a great time to turn things up a notch or two in your business. Set your goals and move forward to success. I love the statement one of my mentors often said, “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going.” Make adjustments as you are going. It’s like moving a car. You have to be moving before you can make a turn.

Have a very successful 2014!
