Here we are again starting another December. This is my 21st December with Young Living Essential Oils. Very early in my career I saw the need to keep momentum going through the months that most people let their business activity slow down or even come to a complete halt. One of the biggest times some go inactive is through the holiday season.

Slowing down your business activity during ANY season is a HUGE mistake.

    1. Smart, business builders know that December is actually the month you should be picking up the pace and getting ready for the best time of the year for business.

    Forward Young Living Business
This is the time many are thinking about increasing their income and are making goals for the new year. This actually starts on the 26th of December but January is a HUGE month for attracting new distributors. People go online and start searching for business opportunities. This is another reason you are insane if you aren’t learning how to improve your online marketing skills.

    2. While so many network marketers are snoozing in their business, it is much easier for you to get noticed, especially if you have been learning attraction marketing skills.

    3. Most people are more involved with social events and getting together with friends and family. This can present all kinds of opportunities to share your products or the business. Use Young Living products in front of people. Listen to what people are saying. Share your peppermint or DiGize after a big meal, Share a mood uplifting oil. Pay attention to the many openings for a conversation. Strategically Place Productsaround where guests will see them and USE Young Living products in front of people to stir interest and questions. Be prepared to share information.

If you slow down or stop business activities for large blocks of time, you backslide. If you are serious about building a successful network marketing business, you will be consistently working through ALL months. This is the way we make progress. Some months we make small steps forward and some we make large leaps.

I always liked this article by John H. Kirk. I have had it in my files for years and shared it with many. It addresses an issue that is common with many network marketing (MLM) distributors. Sadly we see it among many distributors who want to build a business with Young Living. There is a daily method of operation that ALL successful Young Living business builders do. The article below helps to get in the right mindset for that. ENJOY!

Do You Just Show Up At Your Job and Expect to Get Paid?

by John H. Kirk

A lot of people complain that they don’t make money in MLM. I often ask them if they do any follow up to their downline. In most cases, they respond by saying that they don’t have the time and they don’t like talking to people on the phone. These are the people that just show up at their MLM job and expect to get paid. A few of them will luck out because their upline sponsor didn’t just show up, but the vast majority will not make any money. They will immediately start placing the blame on the program they are in. They will immediately say “this program doesn’t work”. WRONG! The reason they didn’t make any money was because THEY DIDN’T WORK!

MLM is different from most conventional jobs because each person is their own boss and each person sets their own hours. They also get to choose if they work or not. Unlike most regular jobs, there is no one to tell them that they have to be at work by 8:00 A.M and can’t quit until 5:00 P.M. They also know that there is a boss or supervisor watching them to see if they’re doing their work. If they don’t do their work, they will be fired from their job. In MLM, you don’t have that pressure of “do it or get fired”. However, you don’t have that salary cap you have on your regular job. Your income in MLM is only limited by the time and work that you put into it.

As a carpenter before I became involved in MLM, I knew that I couldn’t just show up and expect to get paid. I was an independent contractor and I got paid by how much work I did . . .
not to just show up. I had to invest in the tools of my trade, place advertising to get the jobs and spend countless hours of bidding on jobs that I may or may not get. This was time and money spent before I would ever see a dime! Once I received a job, I could only get paid for the work finished. This meant that my paycheck was directly connected to the amount of work I did. Do you know what would have happened if I had just showed up at the job site and did nothing? I had mt tools; had my job to do! Now all I had to do was sit there and wait for someone to pay me to do nothing! It doesn’t work that way and MLM is no different.

The MLM company provides you with the tools (camera ready materials). It provides you with the job (to build a marketing sales force . . . your downline). You have to not just show up! You must mail your circulars. You have to advertise your business to purchase my tools of the trade and place my advertising). This is where most people who fail in MLM stop. No wonder they don’t make money! They haven’t even bid on any jobs yet. The next step is to bid your jobs. This is done by following up with your downline and getting that commitment to work the program. Yes, you will get some “no thank you’s”. I know that I certainly did when I bid for my jobs in construction. On the average I had to bid 10 in order to get one! Now it’s time to go to work! This is where you get paid for your efforts! It’s now your job to stay in touch with the people who committed to you. You must help them go through the same process of getting their tools, placing their advertising and getting their bids (commitments) and getting them to repeat the process to their downline. This process does not stop. If you stopped going to work and doing the job you were hired for on your regular job . . . you wouldn’t have a job or a paycheck very long would you? Why do some people think that MLM is different. It’s not.

I hope that I have given each of you something to think about. In 99% of the cases, when a person blames a “program” or a “company” for his or her failure to make money in MLM . . . you can bet that they just showed up and expected to be paid.

moving-forward
It’s summer time and a time for gardening, vacations, conventions and lots of activities with the family. One mistake network marketers often make is they slow down or even stop their marketing during summer months. This is a huge mistake. You want to keep the momentum going and keep your business growing.

Here are a few easy ways to keep your Young Living Business growing through the summer months.

1. Always carry some oils with you. Remember, busy times are the best because you usually come across more people to talk to. There are lots of ways to do this that feel natural and easy. Be aware of the people around you and the issues they are dealing with. Listen and share a drop of oil with them. You have things that can help. These days most people are stressed out in one way or another. Share a bit of StressAway or some other oil.

Just wearing oils will often cause people to ask questions. I like to wear Abundance oil because I love the smell of that one. I often have people comment on how good I smell and ask what am I wearing. That’s an easy opening to share a little with them.

Use oils in front of people. People are curious, they will often ask questions.
Don’t miss the opportunity to mention something about Young Living Essential Oils. I DON’T mean a sales pitch here. Just a teaser comment. Let the conversation flow naturally.

2. Always carry a sharing packet, well stocked with some brochures and whatever you like to share with people. Don’t forget to take your business with you on vacation. There are always opportunities to share and possibly even write off your trip as a business expense. Make sure you have your web site and phone number on every brochure or marketing material.

3. Use Drop Cards or Leave Behinds that direct people to a presentation on your web site, either the Essential Oils 101 or Non Toxic Living presentation. I like post card size mini flyers. I recommend setting a goal of passing out at least 10 a day. There are times when I don’t even talk to people I just leave them in places for people to find. If you eat at a restaurant, leave a nice big tip with a drop card or a mini flyer. A drop card is not the same as a business card.

4. When you make a new contact, take your phone out and connect with them on Facebook. Then send them a nice direct message later saying something that relates to the conversation you had. If you have a Facebook Business Page, let them know so they can follow that. Of course, you should be posting pictures of ways you are using oils in your daily life on Facebook. Not salesy stuff all the time but showing you having summer fun and oils in use as you are doing things. Whenever I play games, I usually have an oil in the shot even if it’s not really related to things. It helps them get to know you and as they get to know you, they are also getting ideas on ways to use oils in their own life.

When you are cooking use Vitality Oils in recipes and don’t miss the opportunity to take a picture.

Post Daily on your Facebook Page – Daily posting is very important. You can not expect to grow your following or build a business with on again and off again activity. You have access to several sources of free sharing graphics. One source is here: https://ylbusinessbuilders.com/teamnews/info-graphics Please use the tools and be consistent all year long.

5. Wear clothes and accessories with Young Living logo on them. They are great conversation starters. There are some great options on the Young Living Gear website.

6. Check in every morning and evening with email and Facebook. This is especially important if you are doing Facebook or other internet marketing. You need to keep up to date with any important news but most importantly, you need to respond to any interest.

There are lots of ways to keep marketing your business when you go through busy times. The key is to always be aware of the opportunities around you and keep doing something daily that makes progress.

What is your daily routine like? It is a good idea to step back once in a while and think about what you are doing in your business. Are you really doing things that are productive? Things that actually produce INCOME. If you are like me, you started building your Young Living business because you love the products and you can see the potential income. Whether you want supplemental income or you want full time income, it is important to be doing income producing activities on a DAILY basis.

John C. Maxwell said, “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”

It takes consistent, persistent, DAILY work. If you actually intend to generate income, your daily work must be productive, income producing work. It is all too easy to get caught up in time wasting “busy work” that really doesn’t do anything to grow your Young Living business.

habit
Examples of busy work:

Constantly checking email.
Organizing your office.
Studying about the products.
Too much time on Facebook checking and updating your Facebook status.
Talking to the same prospects over and over instead of looking for new prospects.

All of these things are important but they must be focused. Checking email a couple times a day is important but not obsessively. Facebook is a powerful business tool but it can be easy to get drawn down a rabbit hole following links. Studying the products is important but it doesn’t generate income unless you are sharing the info with people.

Income producing activities:

Connecting with people in your daily life: Wear Abundance Oil in your diffuser jewelry
Always prepared with Young Living info to share
Your website and contact info should be on EVERYTHING you hand out.
Place online or offline ads
Write letters
Teaching oil classes
Inviting prospects to your oil classes
Business presentations: Host Webinars, Hangouts, or Use Facebook Live
Write a blog
Make videos
Following up on interest
Helping new members get started

Building Your List – This is an ongoing process. You should always work to grow your list. If you have a blog or a newsletter, you want to grow your list of subscribers. If you have a Facebook Business Page, and you should, you should be growing your list of followers. Your list is a powerful business asset. You must be regularly adding value to the people on your list. Whether email newsletter, snail mail, blog post or Facebook Page, share VALUE: oil tips, recipes and things they will benefit from. Not spamming with your signup link. Value posts will keep them coming back and eventually sign up. I have had people sign up after getting my newsletter for months or even years.

There are lots of income producing activities you can do every day. The important thing is to have a plan and focus on getting several top income producing activities done EVERY DAY.

How are you building your business? Most of us start out building our business around other things we are doing. That’s the way I started my Young Living career nearly 20 years ago. I saw the potential for working from home and freedom both time and financially.

multitasking2
If you are like me, and had to start building your business around a job, you will need to build your Young Living business part time.

There is something very important you need to keep in mind. The way you approach your business will determine whether or not you are successful. There is a big difference between part time and spare time. If you are building your business in your spare time you will NOT be successful. It’s as simple as that.

When you build your business in spare time, you are putting it’s importance in last place. There will always be things that crowd out the daily tasks. Things just don’t get done. Maybe once in a while you dabble at your business but nothing that is consistent and making forward progress.

If you want to seriously earn an income in with your Young Living business, you MUST get rid of the SPARE TIME approach to building your business. The spare time marketer does the business once in a while when they have some extra time. A strong business is not built that way.

Building your business part time means that you have a schedule. When you have a part time job, you have certain hours you devote to your job. You show up and do the work on schedule. When you apply this principle to your business it becomes a serious, progressive business, even if you are working it part time in the beginning. If you stick with it and work part time instead of spare time, you will get there.

Newton’s First Law of Motion states, “An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion.”

Daily action is how a successful business grows, even if you have to work it part time. The daily action must be income producing action. Keep keep thinking in marketing mindset and have sharing materials with you at all times. Talk with people, use marketing materials, follow up on interest, then help your new distributors do the same. Make a plan and work your plan every day.

Jim Rohn said it best, “I am now working full time on my job and part time on my fortune.”

businessman-withsign-part-time

There is an old saying “when you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” That applies to any endeavor but especially to your Young Living Business.

Success in any endeavor, starts with a goal. The only way to have a profitable business is to set goals and take income producing action. An average person with clearly defined, written goals will run circles around a genius without them.

Goals and a plan are what guide you. Average people do not have a plan. They get caught up in busywork because of overwhelm. Overwhelm leads to doubt and fear that paralyzes them . When you are not working from a plan, you end up spinning your wheels.

Know your WHY
Part of setting up goals is to know WHY you are doing this. What do you want to accomplish?

Be Specific
Set goals that actually mean something. Don’t just set a goal that you want to earn more money. The goals must be specific and you must write them down. If your goal is income related, don’t just say I want more income. Make is specific. Let’s say, an income goal of earning $2,000 a month in your Young Living Business. Set a time frame or a deadline in which you can realistically accomplish that goal. I like to set a time frame, then work to beat my time frame. If you miss your deadline, simply reset the deadline and keep working on it. Sometimes things happen that effect your timeline. If that happens, no biggie, just reset the deadline and keep moving toward it.

Set Smaller Goals as Stepping Stones goals1b
Once you decide what goals you have, the next step is to set small goals that are stepping stones to get you to your bigger goals. If your goal is an income amount, what are you going to do to make it happen. What daily activities are you going to do to get you there. Write down those goals too. I like to make a list of monthly goals every month on the first of the month.

Make a Plan of ACTION
Make a list of all the things you will do take steps toward reaching your goal. Use as many details as possible.

Examples:

How many people do you want to talk to every day or every week?
How many business cards, flyers or other promotional pieces will you give out?
How many Drop Cards will you leave?
How many postcards will you mail?
How many Oil Classes will you teach?
How many One on One Oil Meetings will have with prospects?
How many Social Media contacts will you make every day?
How many follow up phone calls?
How many articles will you write?
How many emails will you respond to?
How many info packets will you mail out?
How many Care Packages will you send?

How many SUCCESS MINDSET, Personal Development books, audios, videos, etc?
How many training audios will you listen to?

I could go on and on here with things you could add to your plan. Be detailed, write it down, add things as you need to and keep moving. Make your plan of action, then take ACTION.

Visualize Yourself Reaching Your Goal
Visualization is very important in working toward reaching your goal. You should do some visualization every day. Try to be as clear and vivid as possible. Visualize what you will be doing and how you will act once you reach your goal. I like to lay in bed before I sleep with a bit of visualization.

A Visualization Tool I Use:
Many years ago I had the idea that I could make a check that looks like my company bonus check. A check written to me in the amount of my goal. I made a scan of one of my bonus checks and saved it as an image template that I could update as my goal changed. My first income goal was $1,000 a month but I decided that I wanted it to look like a real number rather than a pretend check so I made it $1158.15. I printed it so I could have it visible on my desk so I could see it every day while I work. Once I reached that goal, I made another one for $2158.15. Every time I reached my goal, I made up a new check with another thousand added to it.

In the beginning, having the checks increase by $1,000 seemed easier to believe in. I still do this. I always have a check with my current income goal that I am working toward. Having it printed and on my desk makes it easier to visualize it.

Another visualization tool is the Visualize Silver Mind Movie

I also do EFT for clearing blocks to my income goals. Two EFT videos by Margaret Lynch. Tap through these DAILY. You can start with the $1,000.00 a month, then proceed to the $3,000. a month. Or, you can jump straight to the $3,000.00 a month.

Tapping helps you remove any resistance to increasing income. You may not think you have blocks to increasing income but subconscious programming can cause us to sabotage by procrastinating and lots of other ways. EFT can clear that.

Tapping for and Extra $1,000.00 a Month

Tapping for and Extra $3,000.00 a Month

Whatever goals you have, keep working toward them. Never give up.

It’s summer time again. This is a time when many distributors lose focus on their business because of gardening, vacations, conventions and lots of activities with the family.

It is a big mistake to slow down your marketing during summer months. You want to keep the momentum going and keep your business growing. You MUST set your priorities and keep moving forward. Successful marketers are in marketing mode every day, everywhere. We don’t build our business in spurts, working for a little while, then neglecting our business for days or weeks. There are plenty of ways to keep your business moving even while you are having fun.

You have things that can help. These days most people are stressed out in one way or another. Share a bit of StressAway or some other oil.

Just wearing oils will often cause people to ask questions.

3. Wear clothes and accessories with Young Living logo on them. They are great conversation starters. There are some options on the Young Living Wearable Advertising Page.

4. Put a window decal on your car – don’t put company name but put something about therapeutic grade essential oils with a link that directs people to YOUR web site.

5. Check in every morning and evening with email and Facebook. This is especially important if you are doing Facebook or other internet marketing. You need to keep up to date with any important news but most importantly, you need to respond to any interest.

6. Post Daily on your Facebook Page – Daily posting is very important. You can not expect to grow your following or build a business with on again and off again activity. You have access to several sources of free sharing graphics. Click the Graphics link in the bar at the top of this page for one source of graphics. Please use the tools and be consistent all year long.

There are lots of ways to keep marketing your business when you go through busy times. The key is to always be aware of the opportunities around you and keep doing something daily that makes progress.

“To influence someone, you have to already be influenced. To move someone, you better be moved. You can’t touch someone about your products if you are not touched. To persuade others you have to be persuaded. You can’t give somebody else what you don’t have.” ~ Tony Robbins

influence

This is a very powerful statement. As distributors, we are sharing Young Living products and the business opportunity. You can not be successful in this business if you do not believe in both the products and the opportunity. You must first be influenced before you can influence others.

How do we influence ourselves and build belief?

Here are a few ways:

    1. Using the Products – Using the products is the first way to start influencing yourself. You will find certain products that you just love. Young Living has a LOT of products to fall in love with. When you love something, it is easy to talk about.

    2. Attend Events – You should be attending as many Young Living events as you possibly can. Whenever you can get together with other distributors you can learn from each other. Not only learning but energizing each other. There is so much excitement and power that comes from mixing with other distributors working toward similar goals.

    3. Listen to audios and videos – There are loads of audios and videos put out by Young Living, your upline and other network marketing trainers. Serious network marketers are listening to these trainings as much as possible. The more you listen, the more you will be able to speak up about things that will help other people.

Try to listen to something every day, especially whenever you have a day where you are feeling unmotivated or discouraged. Every day do something to grow in your skills and your belief in the products and the network marketing industry. Very important to be learning about Young Living Farms and Seed to Seal process. This is HUGE. No other essential oil or network marketing company does what Young Living does.

    4. Attend Conference Calls – Listening to and even participating in conference calls is another awesome way to build belief, grow skills and influence. There are a lot of conference calls you can access. It is impossible to be on all of them. Usually these conference calls are recorded so you can listen anytime.

    5. Read Books – I know, you already know reading books is important but I am always amazed how few books people actually read. Read books by successful network marketers, Young Living leaders, motivational speakers like John Maxwell, Jim Rohn, Eric Worre, etc.

    6. Subscribe to Newsletters & Blogs – There are loads of blogs and newsletters that you can benefit from. It is particularly important to subscribe to all upline newsletters you can find.

Also subscribe to newsletters and blogs on marketing, personal development and things related to Young Living or network marketing in general. I also recommend subscribing to industry journals like Network Marketing Times Magazine.

    7. Join Facebook Groups by leaders – Not only join but pay attention to what the leaders are posting. Facebook has become a HUGE tool in training and keeping updated with all kinds of Young Living news and training. It’s pretty awesome.

These are just a few things that will help build belief and passion for the product and the business. Make it a DAILY commitment to do something to grow your passion and influence. That will help your business grow.

Can you believe it? Another year has passed. This is one of my favorite times of the year. This is the time to spend reflect on the past year and make plans for the new year. January is one of the best months of the year for finding new business associates. It is the beginning of a new year and it is the time people decide to change things in their life. For many people, it is a time to begin building a business that can change their life from one of making ends meet to one of abundance. They start the new year off making resolutions. I’m not one for New Year’s Resolutions. People usually don’t take those seriously, however, I am a firm believer in setting goals and making action plans to achieve those goals.

I generally begin by thinking about the different things that have happened in the year to this point but also in the years prior in my Young Living career. Reflecting on both the good things that happened and things that weren’t so good. Don’t spend much time on the things that weren’t so good but just enough time to take note of anything you learned or ways you can improve in the future.

Not only is it important to be regularly analyzing things and improving as you go, it is also important to celebrate the successes of the previous year. Celebrating is really important because it sets a success energy that attracts more good things.

Three Reasons to Reflect on and Celebrate Success:celebrate-success

1. We train our subconscious to be aware and open to success and abundance.
2. We give our subconscious and conscious mind PROOF of our success and progress.
3. It builds self-esteem, confidence and belief in our abilities.

Some things to include in your reflection:

Any successes large and small. Even the things you consider small. Some of these small successes are stepping stones to larger successes.

New things you learned – This is a huge one that people often forget to include. Reflect on all the training you have taken, books you have read, videos & audios and live events you have attended, anything that has been good for growth in your personal development or business skills. Really celebrate this one knowing that training and personal development is the biggest success secret of network marketing professionals who earn full time income.

Don’t forget the things you learned by trial and error. Like when you began learning to write a blog or make a video.

There are lots of things you can add to your list. I recommend writing down your reflections. If you have been following my training for any length of time, you should have this done from previous years and have saved them. If so, take out some of your past years reflections and look at the progress over the years. This is really fun.

Reflecting on the progress you have made builds confidence. When I look back on the girl who was terrified to be a leader, I am amazed at how far I have come. It always gets me choked up as I write and reflect on how I have changed. Network Marketing is the best business for personal growth.

plansAfter you have finished reflecting on the previous year, you can make a plan of action for the next year. What will you do to increase your business? How will you improve on your marketing skills and what will you do to implement. Think about where you want to be at the end of 2016. Write that down. Then make a list of all the things you plan to do to get there.

Writing all of this down is very important. It helps you have a direction for the year. Keep a copy of both the reflecting of the previous year and the plan for next year. It is really empowering to look back at the things you have accomplished in the past and how far you have come, especially when you have the notes for several years. You can see your growth over the years which is such a confidence booster.

Procrastination is a problem for many network marketers. The days are ticking by one after another. Don’t let procrastination cause you to miss out on this opportune time to build a successful Young Living business. Every day that you don’t do some work on your business, self improvement and training are putting you one step further away from your goals.

Tips to help with Procrastination:

    1. Know WHY you are building this business and think about it every day. Then decide what you will do TODAY that will take you one step closer to your goal.

todo2. Make a list of the IMPORTANT things you want to accomplish today. I start my to do list in the afternoon for the next day’s activities. I put it under my mouse so it is the first thing I see when I sit down at my computer.

Some of the things on your list need to be things that will actually cause you to increase income – Getting people to your web site, putting marketing materials out, talking to prospects, etc.

    3. Prioritize your list. Decide which things are most important on the list. Do those tasks first, before checking email or Facebook. I find this especially important if I plan to make social media graphics or write articles. It is easy to get sidetracked with other things and never get around to things you had planned to do to grow your business.

    4. Big jobs can be broken down into parts. Part of your daily routine should be reading success books and training. I have several books I am in the process of reading. I read a bit from each every day. Even 15 minutes a day reading will be a positive step forward.

    5. Make a plan and take action. Decide how much time you will spend each week on your business. Then plan what you will do during that time.

    6. Do some EFT to help release some of the causes of procrastination.

I recommend at a minimum of talking to at least two new prospects every day… that is 60 a month. If you recruit just 10%, you will have 6 new recruits personally sponsored every month.

You will never be perfect. You don’t have to get it perfect, you just have to get it going.
