Distributors often look at successful people with Young Living and they see the results they have had and they start comparing their own results or lack of results. Sometimes they assume that the successful people had some magic system or they had a huge marketing budget or they just lucked out and sponsored workers in their downline. Some even put it up to having the right upline.


When you are looking at the successful distributors in Young Living, you need to look at their habits. It’s their daily habits that are the reason they are successful in Young Living.


What are the habits of successful Young Living Distributors?

  • They know they are the CEO of their own business. They know success is up to them. They go by the philosophy, “If it is to be, it’s up to ME.
  • They focus on their WHY. Why they want a successful business.
  • They are prospecting to 10-20 people a day rather than one or 2 a month.
  • They check their email and respond quickly to emails or phone calls.
  • They follow up on interest.
  • They know the importance of DAILY personal development: reading books, newsletters, audios.
  • They attend Young Living Events in their local area or state.
  • They attend Grand Convention.
  • They listen to conference calls and replays of calls when they can’t be on the live call.
  • They are paying attention to company news: Upline newsletters, company newsletters, conference calls, Facebook Groups, etc.
  • They set goals and work toward them.
  • They don’t wait until they know each and every step before they take even one. They just get started.
  • They focus on abundance instead of lack.

January is always an exciting month. It’s a new year and lots of people have set resolutions to increase income and make other changes in their life. It is a great time to turn things up a notch or two in your business. Set your goals and move forward to success. I love the statement one of my mentors often said, “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going.” Make adjustments as you are going. It’s like moving a car. You have to be moving before you can make a turn.

Here is a great quote from Craig Aramaki, “Don’t sell the products! Instead, fall in love with the products and then, sell that love. Your passion is your purpose.”


Craig Aramaki is chief marketing officer at Young Living Essential Oils . He made that comment at the 2013 Grand Convention. It’s a really powerful statement and one you should think about. How much do you love the products? What about Young Living Essential Oils as a company?


I have been with Young Living for over 16 years. I started building my business because of how much I love the oils and what they have done for me and my family both physically and emotionally. It was Abundance oil that lifted me out of severe depression. Within minutes of using that oil I felt wonderful. It was that shift that made me realize how much I could help others with these oils.


I could never be successful building a business with products I didn’t truly LOVE! I have been involved with several companies and affiliate programs on the side over the years for products and services I use. Some of them I attempted to build a side income with but I had very little success with any of those other programs. Each one has paled in comparison to Young Living. I guess it was good because they all made me appreciate what we have in Young Living and how special this company really is.


To be really successful in Young Living, you really need to understand and appreciate how unique the company and products are. I know most people say that about their company but NONE can say things that Young Living Distributors can say about our company.


It is IMPORTANT that YOU, as a Young Living Distributor who is serious about success, get to know the things that make our company truly unique. First by using the products and becoming a product of the product. Using the products you will have your own stories to tell.


Second, learn how Young Living goes above and beyond what is normal to produce the highest quality essential oils in the world. Get to know the ways Young Living is different from other network marketing companies and other essential oil companies.

The poem below was read at Young Living Convention 2013. It’s a good one because it gets you thinking. We see things from our own perspective but sometimes we are wrong. That’s why we need to listen to other people and widen our scope of vision and understanding. It applies to a lot of things in life and your Young Living business.

The Cookie Thief
A woman was waiting at an airport one night, with several long hours before her flight. She hunted forCookie Thief Poem a book in the airport shops, bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.


She was engrossed in her book but happened to see, that the man sitting beside her, as bold as could be. . . grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between, which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene.


So she munched the cookies and watched the clock, as the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock. She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by, thinking, “If I wasn’t so nice, I would blacken his eye.”


With each cookie she took, he took one too, when only one was left, she wondered what he would do. With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it in half.


He offered her half, as he ate the other, she snatched it from him and thought… oooh, brother. This guy has some nerve and he’s also rude, why he didn’t even show any gratitude!


She had never known when she had been so galled, and sighed with relief when her flight was called. She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate, refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate.


She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat, then she sought her book, which was almost complete. As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise, there was her bag of cookies, in front of her eyes.


If mine are here, she moaned in despair, the others were his, and he tried to share. Too late to apologize, she realized with grief, that she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief.

Key to Success in Young Living BusinessThere is a secret that that successful marketers know that ensures they sponsor people every week and every month. It’s really not that much of a secret but to some distributors it seems to be a concept that is difficult to grasp.


The secret is having a marketing mindset. That means that you have marketing in mind at all times, even when you are doing things totally not related to business.


I can’t stress enough that you need to keep marketing in mind at all times. If you really want to earn income with your Young Living business, you need to have marketing in mind every day. What does that mean? It doesn’t mean pitching people all the time but it does mean that you are ready when the opportunity arises.


When you have marketing in mind, you are prepared, alert and actually looking for ways to promote. Promotion can be dropping seeds that may not produce something right away. It can be as simple as using oils in front of people and wearing certain oils whenever you are in public so people comment on how good you smell. I wear Abundance oil ALWAYS. It smells great and people comment on it. You can respond by saying, “It’s an essential oil blend called Abundance. It’s one of my favorite mood uplifting oils, plus it attracts good things.” Then . . .


Whenever you talk to people about why you smell so great, that’s an opening for a short comment on essential oils.


Don’t forget to use oils regularly in front of people and be prepared to respond with a short comment to see if there is interest. Always carry information to give people who are interested. This information must have your contact info and web site.


There are many orphans every month because of people who talked with someone about Young Living Essential Oils but ended the conversation without giving anything that would help them know what to do next. They Google and find someone to enroll under. Prospect lost to another Young Living Distributor.


There are lots of ways to promote your Young Living business but you should always be using at least 3-5 marketing methods at all times. If you do this EVERY Day, and always keep marketing in mind, no matter what you are doing, you will be able to sponsor people EVERY month.


Daily action is how a successful business grows, even if you have to build your business while working a busy job schedule.


I believe true success means fulfillment!

Do you remember the movie “City Slickers?” Billy Crystal and two cohorts are about to celebrate turning 40. They are talking about and searching for the meaning of life. In one scene Billy says to a classroom full of young people, “Value this time in your life kids. This is the time when you still have your choices. It goes by so fast. When you are a teenager, you think you can do anything and you do. Your 20’s are a blur, 30’s raise your family. You make a little money. You say to yourself, “What happened to my 20’s?” “40’s grow a pot belly: grow another chin. Music starts to get too loud. One of your old girlfriends from high school becomes a grandmother. 50’s you have minor surgery, you call it a procedure, but it’s surgery. 60’s you have a major surgery, the music is still too loud, but it doesn’t matter because you can’t hear it anyway. 70’s you and your wife retire to Fort Lauderdale. You start eating your dinner at 2 0’clock in the afternoon. You have lunch at 10 and breakfast the night before. You spend most of your time wondering in the Mall looking for the ultimate soft yogurt and muttering ‘How come the kids don’t call?’ The 80’s you will have a major stroke. You end up babbling to a Jamaican nurse your wife can’t stand, but you call Momma. Any questions?”

How pitiful! But so true most of the time! This surely DOES NOT describe a truly successful, fulfilled life!

True success means fulfillment. In every area of life, people choose to enjoy success. Yes, in EVERY area from family and spiritual to career and finances, we all DESIRE to be fulfilled and prosper.

So why don’t we? We fail to INTENT our life to be fulfilled. We let life just happen to us! TODAY is the day for INTENTION! Your intention precedes ACTION. Because what you think BEFORE you DO… Changes the DOING or action. The intention coupled with action results in enjoying a life of purpose and meaning. You will live to learn and learn to live!

So don’t wait another day day! Make your intention this very day to fill your life with people, happiness, joy, gratitude, and abundance. Don’t wait till you are up in years and then look back with regret, (if you even live that long). Then, take action and share with others your dreams and desires. Help them find theirs as well, so neither you nor they will end up like Billy Crystal and his two co-horts in the movie “City Slickers.” Yes, true success means fulfillment!

Have you been using the many promotional items that we have? There are lots of items that can be used to stimulate interest in Young Living business or products. If you have attended any of Young Living conventions you know they always give you a really nice bag with the Young Living logo and other things like a spiral notebook and pen. These items can be used in your marketing but there is more to it than you think.


Do not miss out on these opportunities to use promotional items. They do stimulate interest but there is another important thing you are doing with all of these techniques. You are reminding people that you use Young Living Oils and you have an oils business. I do this EVERY SINGLE TIME I am with anyone. You won’t have a conversation about oils or the business every time you use a promotional item but you are always reminding people that you do oils. The more you do it, the more people will remember you when the time is right for them.

Pay close attention to Young Living’s Seasonal Catalogs. They are often filled with gift ideas that have the Young Living logo on them. These things make great promotional tools.

This is why I always have product placements throughout my house. I use oils in front of people all the time. It opens the door to many conversations about the oils.


I set up the product placement page so we can put some ideas together for team members. There are lots of great ideas to remind people that you have an oils business.


Here is a neat item I picked up at YL convention a few years ago. It’s a pen with a perfume sprayer that can be filled with oil. Pretty cool! I wish we could still get these.

They always have cool promotional items in the Product Expo at convention. I have picked up coffee mugs, shirts and hats, a jacket, grocery shopping bags, awesome water bottles a calculator and pen set plus several other things.


One of the bags I got now serves as my laptop bag. I like it better than the one I got for my laptop because of the beautiful Young Living logo on it.


The point I am trying to make here is that we always need to be aware of opportunities to let people know what we do. We all have a lot of these tools in our possession but are we using them? I have to admit, there have been times I grabbed plain ole mugs instead of my beautiful Young Living mugs.


Always in marketing mode. 😉


You never know when you are going to have an opportunity to stir up some interest in the product or business opportunity. I have never been one who could easily approach strangers and start talking about my business or products. Maybe you feel uncomfortable with that too. Most of us feel that way.


There is a way to make talking with strangers feel natural and comfortable. If you approach every stranger as a friend you haven’t met yet and just smile and say “HI!”


The key is to ALWAYS BE READY! Always ready to connect with people. That begins with being friendly and having a warm approachable energy that you sending out.


When you are standing in a line at the grocery store or sitting in a waiting room or a variety of other places, there are often opportunities to stir interest in your product or business opportunity. Are you aware and watching for these opportunities?


Young Living Wearable Advertising
One way to help get conversations started is to wear an article of clothing, jewelry or accessory with a company slogan or a product slogan.


I remember a wonderful pin we used to have that said, “May the Immupower be with you!” That one was great for getting people to ask questions. People were constantly asking what that meant. It was an easy opening for a conversation. I really wish Young Living would bring those back. Sadly I gave my last one as a distributor gift, not realizing it was my last one.

Think about what Young Living has that you can use to stimulate questions. Make sure you have something prepared to say when people ask questions. Also, be sure you are prepared to share a brochure, flyer or other prospecting item. It’s best if you can also get their phone number and arrange to meet for a one on one or invite to a class but also, get something in their hands. There is a spot on the back page of brochures to put your contact information. Don’t forget to do this. Be sure to include your web site address.

There are 3 things that will help you attract prospects wherever you go:


1. Have a warm friendly smile on your face.


2. Be conversational with people around you. Look people in the eye and say “Hello. How are you today?” Just be friendly and talk to people. If you appear stressed out and closed off, people will not want to talk. You will also find it difficult to talk to them. You must truly be in a warm and friendly mood. If not, you will repel people rather than attract them.


3. Use a product in front of people. Essential oils are easy to use in front of people and the smell often stimulates questions. I carry an oils pouch and often open it and apply an oil in front of people. My favorites are the ones that are mood uplifting and great smelling. Christmas Spirit or Abundance are the ones I use most because people will comment on how great it smells. I respond with, “I needed an emotional pick me up. Would you like to try a drop?” Then, depending on the level of interest, I often ask if they are familiar with therapeutic grade essential oils.

Well, there you have it. There are lots more ideas for building your Young Living business but hopefully these will help you get the wheels turning. Have fun!!


Have you ever noticed, when you go to the theater to see a movie, you can see familiar brands woven throughout the movie. Strategically placed products put there as subtle advertising. A few years ago I saw a documentary on television about advertising and how companies are actually paying to have their products placed in movies.


When I saw that documentary I started thinking about ways I could use a similar technique in my business advertising. Why not strategically place products and other items related to your business around for people to see and spark interest in Young Living products or business.


I have been doing this for years with some really funny results. My favorite is with Thieves Product Line. I keep a Thieves Foaming Hand Cleaner in every bathroom. Young Living has other foaming hand cleaners but the Thieves Story is priceless. People walk out of the bathroom with a smile and a question. They always want to know why it’s called Thieves. I LOVE that! I tell them the Thieves Story.


If you don’t know the Thieves Story, I recommend you get familiar with it.


When people ask questions, it is an opening to drip bits of information on them. Thieves products have a great story. Tell the Thieves Story!


The Story of Thieves Oil

I never start in on a sales pitch but I DO let them know I am a distributor for the products. I just drop bits of information and let them keep coming back with more questions. The conversation flows naturally and people often want to know how to get the products for themselves.


Young Living has so many great products that can be used as product placement advertising in your home or anywhere you happen to be. There are other ideas that are not Young Living products but you can use as conversation openers.



Young Living has lots of non-toxic personal care products, you could have those placed around but another good idea is to have the brochure, “Rub a Dub Dub. Is Cancer In Your Tub?” sitting out where people can see it. You could also have a copy of the tucked into the booklet. I love to show how people manufacturing products with Sodium Lauryl Sulfate are required to wear rubber suits and masks.


Other things you could place around to generate interest are company magazines, brochures about specific products and industry related books. Books related to network marketing or home business success. If you have been on company trips, have a few pictures framed and placed where people can see them.


There are loads of ideas for ways you can stimulate interest in your business or the products. Think about what you have available within your company. Place as many things around you as possible whether at work or at home in places where visitors will see things. Then be ready with something to say that may cause the visitor to want more information.
