That’s a great quote by John C. Maxwell, who will be speaking at the 2014 Young Living Convention.
Successful Young Living Distributors know they need to do a few things every day that move them forward in their business. What is your daily routine like? It is a good idea to step back once in a while and think about what you are doing in your business. Are you really doing things that are going to help you progress toward your goals?


Being consistent has everything to do with your vision. If you have a vision of who you want to be and what you want your business and your life to look like, this will drive your daily activities. If you are struggling with consistency, you likely have a weak vision of what you want your business to look like. You need to get clear on what you want your life and your business to look like.


Write your vision on a note card. Try to be as detailed as possible as you write a picture of what your success will look like. Spend a few minutes every morning reading your card and thinking about your vision. Picture yourself already achieving your goals.


When you create and then focus on your vision. This will help drive you to do your daily routine.


In your Daily Routine you should:


1. Talk to people – Every day, talk to as many people as possible: in person, on Facebook, through email, on the phone or whatever means you have. Drop tidbits that spark interest, leave brochures, leave behinds, drop cards, product placement, etc to spark conversations. Send people to your web site. Never give any piece of marketing material without your web site on it.


2. Study – You need to spend a little time each day on personal development. The ones who do this are the ones who get the best results. I still do this daily, even after 17 years in Young Living and 19 years in network marketing. We all need to be serious about personal development.


3. Attend company events – People often say they can’t afford to go to events, they aren’t making enough money or that they don’t know what they are doing. Attending company events will help you in these areas.


Another way to keep your vision in front of you is to create a Mind Movie or a Vision Board that you will look at every day. You can also use the Mind Movie I created for you.


Time sure flies. It is hard to believe that winter is over and spring is here. Pretty soon we will see the flowers blooming and the trees waking up. Spring is a time where we start feeling revived and energized. Why not channel some of that energy into your business. This is a good time to make a plan for the next quarter of the year.


I always recommend to write out your goals. Write some long term goals but also goals for the next 3 months. Each week, write a list of action steps that you will do that will help you get to your longer term goals for your Young Living business.


You must make a plan and then WORK YOUR PLAN! I see far too many distributors sign up who seem to think that all they have to do is join, get a web site and their business will build itself as if by osmosis. Sorry to burst anyone’s bubble but that’s not how business of any kind works.


Your Young Living distributor web site is sort of like an island in the middle of the ocean. If you don’t show people the way to your web site, no one will find it. People will either follow a link to your web site or type in the address from something YOU gave them. There is no other way. The nice thing is, with a little work, you can set up routes to your web site that will be in place even when you are doing other things. That way, your business is working whether you are working, playing or sleeping.


You need to be using 3 to 5 marketing techniques to build the business at all times. Even if you plan to do most of your marketing by face to face talking to people, keep it centered around your web site. The web site can be working, even when you are not working. When you talk to people you come across in a day’s travels, you should be giving people you talk to something with your web site on it. People can go to your web site later and get more information. Some will even sign up right away if you give them a way to do so.


marketingIt’s all a numbers game. The more people you talk to the more success you will have in your business. The more people you lead to your web site, the more people you will talk to. I recommend using both online and offline marketing.


Decide how fast you want to move your business forward. How many people will you talk to each day? How many bits of information will you give out with your web site on it? You can do this in a lot of ways. If you have a Facebook business page, share oil tips and connect with people online. If you have a blog, do at least one or 2 blog posts a week and share them on your Facebook page an other social media. If you are marketing offline, the key is to have some information to share and give it out liberally.


I love using “leave behinds.” Leave behinds are bits of information that will continue to work once you have left the conversation. It could be a brochure or a flyer. It should be something that will get them thinking about why they need Young Living Products. An example is the booklet, Rub A Dub. Is there Cancer in Your Tub?” You get the idea. Look for brochures and prospecting tools that get the prospect thinking about how Young Living Products will be a great benefit to their family.

Leave behinds are great for those days when you are in a hurry and don’t have time to get into lengthy conversations. Also goof for those days when you are not in the mood to talk to anyone. 😉 I have left many leave behinds with a hefty tip at a restaurant or hotel.

Make sure you put your web site and contact information on anything you give out!


Take MASSIVE Action. If you don’t take action, NOTHING will happen. Actually you need to take appropriate action. Some people fiddle with this and that doing “business tasks” and are not really doing action that amounts to making progress.


ACTION, ACTION, ACTION!!


Every morning ask yourself, “What can I do today to MOVE my business forward toward the success of my goals for my Young Living business?” What can I do today to get more people to my web site? What can I do to get more new Young Living members?


Lately I have the music from the new Lego Movie rolling around in my head. You have probably been hearing it a lot too. “Everything is Awesome.”


I decided to do a search to see what the words to the song are. The music makes me happy and feel like dancing. When I searched I found a YouTube video so I could hear the words to the full song. The words are very good and just the type of music I like to listen to when I need a motivating mood uplift.


Here are a few words from the song:

Your attitude affects the energy you are radiating when you talk to people and how they react to what you are saying. People will be more inclined to listen to a person who is radiating a happy attracting energy rather than one that is negative.


Your attitude affects your abundance. It affects your motivation. It affects how you work in your business. It affects everything!


Think about the way you greet people. A while back I wrote the article: How Do You Respond When Asked “How Are You?” I have heard all kinds of negative responses varying from “I’m fine” to “Not so good” or even much worse.


I used to say similar negative responses until I realized how powerful our words and feelings are and how much those things affect our success. Now I say something that will be uplifting to the other person but also to me. The words we use either bring us up or down. Every time we say something negative or complain about something, we are reenforcing that negative feeling in us. Even saying “I am fine” is one I like to avoid. I would rather say, “I am awesome.” Or something similar. Try it. Those words lift you up. Saying “I am fine” is sort of neutral. It does nothing to improve things. People say they are fine when they really aren’t feeling fine. Try saying “I am awesome” when you are in a group where you might get asked that question several times. I always find my mood lifting each time I say it.


Your attitude is very important to the amount of success you will have in your Young Living business. The words you use. The way you react to little set backs. The failures and little set backs are learning experiences. In my 17 years with Young Living I have see so many distributors give up because of setbacks, not knowing how to build their business and various other things that boil down to attitude. The only failure is giving up.


Don’t give up!


We are all different in our marketing styles. There are all kinds of ways to succeed in this business, even for people who don’t feel like sales people. Try different things until you find the marketing that fits your style.


I am reminded of Thomas Edison’s famous quote: “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

Don’t give up!

Distributors often look at successful people with Young Living and they see the results they have had and they start comparing their own results or lack of results. Sometimes they assume that the successful people had some magic system or they had a huge marketing budget or they just lucked out and sponsored workers in their downline. Some even put it up to having the right upline.


When you are looking at the successful distributors in Young Living, you need to look at their habits. It’s their daily habits that are the reason they are successful in Young Living.


What are the habits of successful Young Living Distributors?

  • They know they are the CEO of their own business. They know success is up to them. They go by the philosophy, “If it is to be, it’s up to ME.
  • They focus on their WHY. Why they want a successful business.
  • They are prospecting to 10-20 people a day rather than one or 2 a month.
  • They check their email and respond quickly to emails or phone calls.
  • They follow up on interest.
  • They know the importance of DAILY personal development: reading books, newsletters, audios.
  • They attend Young Living Events in their local area or state.
  • They attend Grand Convention.
  • They listen to conference calls and replays of calls when they can’t be on the live call.
  • They are paying attention to company news: Upline newsletters, company newsletters, conference calls, Facebook Groups, etc.
  • They set goals and work toward them.
  • They don’t wait until they know each and every step before they take even one. They just get started.
  • They focus on abundance instead of lack.

January is always an exciting month. It’s a new year and lots of people have set resolutions to increase income and make other changes in their life. It is a great time to turn things up a notch or two in your business. Set your goals and move forward to success. I love the statement one of my mentors often said, “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going.” Make adjustments as you are going. It’s like moving a car. You have to be moving before you can make a turn.

Here is a great quote from Craig Aramaki, “Don’t sell the products! Instead, fall in love with the products and then, sell that love. Your passion is your purpose.”


Craig Aramaki is chief marketing officer at Young Living Essential Oils . He made that comment at the 2013 Grand Convention. It’s a really powerful statement and one you should think about. How much do you love the products? What about Young Living Essential Oils as a company?


I have been with Young Living for over 16 years. I started building my business because of how much I love the oils and what they have done for me and my family both physically and emotionally. It was Abundance oil that lifted me out of severe depression. Within minutes of using that oil I felt wonderful. It was that shift that made me realize how much I could help others with these oils.


I could never be successful building a business with products I didn’t truly LOVE! I have been involved with several companies and affiliate programs on the side over the years for products and services I use. Some of them I attempted to build a side income with but I had very little success with any of those other programs. Each one has paled in comparison to Young Living. The poem below was read at Young Living Convention 2013. It’s a good one because it gets you thinking. We see things from our own perspective but sometimes we are wrong. That’s why we need to listen to other people and widen our scope of vision and understanding. It applies to a lot of things in life and your Young Living business.

The Cookie Thief
A woman was waiting at an airport one night, with several long hours before her flight. She hunted forCookie Thief Poem a book in the airport shops, bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.


She was engrossed in her book but happened to see, that the man sitting beside her, as bold as could be. . . grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between, which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene.


So she munched the cookies and watched the clock, as the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock. She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by, thinking, “If I wasn’t so nice, I would blacken his eye.”


With each cookie she took, he took one too, when only one was left, she wondered what he would do. With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it in half.


He offered her half, as he ate the other, she snatched it from him and thought… oooh, brother. This guy has some nerve and he’s also rude, why he didn’t even show any gratitude!


She had never known when she had been so galled, and sighed with relief when her flight was called. She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate, refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate.


She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat, then she sought her book, which was almost complete. As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise, there was her bag of cookies, in front of her eyes.


If mine are here, she moaned in despair, the others were his, and he tried to share. Too late to apologize, she realized with grief, that she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief.

Key to Success in Young Living BusinessThere is a secret that that successful marketers know that ensures they sponsor people every week and every month. It’s really not that much of a secret but to some distributors it seems to be a concept that is difficult to grasp.


The secret is having a marketing mindset. That means that you have marketing in mind at all times, even when you are doing things totally not related to business.


I can’t stress enough that you need to keep marketing in mind at all times. If you really want to earn income with your Young Living business, you need to have marketing in mind every day. What does that mean? It doesn’t mean pitching people all the time but it does mean that you are ready when the opportunity arises.


When you have marketing in mind, you are prepared, alert and actually looking for ways to promote. Promotion can be dropping seeds that may not produce something right away. It can be as simple as using oils in front of people and wearing certain oils whenever you are in public so people comment on how good you smell. I wear Abundance oil ALWAYS. It smells great and people comment on it. You can respond by saying, “It’s an essential oil blend called Abundance. It’s one of my favorite mood uplifting oils, plus it attracts good things.” Then . . .


Whenever you talk to people about why you smell so great, that’s an opening for a short comment on essential oils.


Don’t forget to use oils regularly in front of people and be prepared to respond with a short comment to see if there is interest. Always carry information to give people who are interested. This information must have your contact info and web site.


There are many orphans every month because of people who talked with someone about Young Living Essential Oils but ended the conversation without giving anything that would help them know what to do next. They Google and find someone to enroll under. Prospect lost to another Young Living Distributor.


There are lots of ways to promote your Young Living business but you should always be using at least 3-5 marketing methods at all times. If you do this EVERY Day, and always keep marketing in mind, no matter what you are doing, you will be able to sponsor people EVERY month.


Daily action is how a successful business grows, even if you have to build your business while working a busy job schedule.


I believe true success means fulfillment!

Do you remember the movie “City Slickers?” Billy Crystal and two cohorts are about to celebrate turning 40. They are talking about and searching for the meaning of life. In one scene Billy says to a classroom full of young people, “Value this time in your life kids. This is the time when you still have your choices. It goes by so fast. When you are a teenager, you think you can do anything and you do. Your 20’s are a blur, 30’s raise your family. You make a little money. You say to yourself, “What happened to my 20’s?” “40’s grow a pot belly: grow another chin. Music starts to get too loud. One of your old girlfriends from high school becomes a grandmother. 50’s you have minor surgery, you call it a procedure, but it’s surgery. 60’s you have a major surgery, the music is still too loud, but it doesn’t matter because you can’t hear it anyway. 70’s you and your wife retire to Fort Lauderdale. You start eating your dinner at 2 0’clock in the afternoon. You have lunch at 10 and breakfast the night before. You spend most of your time wondering in the Mall looking for the ultimate soft yogurt and muttering ‘How come the kids don’t call?’ The 80’s you will have a major stroke. You end up babbling to a Jamaican nurse your wife can’t stand, but you call Momma. Any questions?”

How pitiful! But so true most of the time! This surely DOES NOT describe a truly successful, fulfilled life!

True success means fulfillment. In every area of life, people choose to enjoy success. Yes, in EVERY area from family and spiritual to career and finances, we all DESIRE to be fulfilled and prosper.

So why don’t we? We fail to INTENT our life to be fulfilled. We let life just happen to us! TODAY is the day for INTENTION! Your intention precedes ACTION. Because what you think BEFORE you DO… Changes the DOING or action. The intention coupled with action results in enjoying a life of purpose and meaning. You will live to learn and learn to live!

So don’t wait another day day! Make your intention this very day to fill your life with people, happiness, joy, gratitude, and abundance. Don’t wait till you are up in years and then look back with regret, (if you even live that long). Then, take action and share with others your dreams and desires. Help them find theirs as well, so neither you nor they will end up like Billy Crystal and his two co-horts in the movie “City Slickers.” Yes, true success means fulfillment!
