You have a gift you can share your family and friends, but it can feel uncomfortable talking about it. You may worry that they will think you are just trying to make a sale. It doesn’t have to be uncomfortable. Just a little mental shift is all it takes.

When you love something you easily talk about it. Think of something else in your life that you love talking about but you don’t have any potential to earn money from. You just naturally talk about it.

For example. I am a artist. Over the years I have dabbled in various forms of art. Examples are drawing, oil painting, watercolor, and copper enamel jewelry making. Lately combining my copper enamel pieces with gemstones and lava stone for unique diffuser jewelry. The point is, I love art and I naturally talk about it. I even sell my art but that doesn’t make me afraid to talk about it.

Talking about what you love feels totally normal. When you are talking about your love for your art, or whatever is fun and exciting for you, it is easy to talk about and will naturally come up in conversations.

This is the mindset you need to have with your oils and healthy lifestyle. Whether you are going out or you are having friends over or chatting up friends on social media, you can be a walking advertisement for the oily lifestyle.

Secret Tip – Get Them to Ask YOU

Do you want to know a few secrets to get people to ask YOU about the oils without you even bringing it up?

That’s my absolute FAVORITE way to get oil conversations started with my friends and family. I make THEM bring it up.

There are LOTS of awesome ways to do this. Here are a few tips and make sure you don’t miss the slides with captions below.

1. Wear your oils. You will smell wonderful when you walk in and people will notice. Many will ask, “What smells so good?” That’s your open door to step through and make an brief comment. Not a sales pitch. Just a comment, “Oh that’s my Stress Away oil. I wear that one on those crazy days.

I love Abundance oil and I wear it everywhere. It smells wonderful and MANY people ask about it. Strangers comment on how wonderful it smells. One old friend told me he liked to hug me because always felt better when he could get a good whiff of my oil. Abundance oil is the reason I started with Young Living 27 years ago. At the time, I was very depressed because of our financial situation Abundance oil is very mood uplifting. Someone shared a couple drops with me. It lifted me up within minutes and I was stunned at how fast it worked. I had to get my own bottle!

2. Use oils in front of people. Carry oils with you wherever you go. I have an oil bag in my purse that fits several oils I like to use deliberately in front of people. It has Peppermint, lemon, Joy, Abundance, DiGize, Stress Away, and whatever else moves me at the moment.
Peppermint or lemon I will put on the dinner table and add a drop to my water. In a restaurant, when at a friend’s house for dinner or when someone comes to dinner at my house. I deliberately sit the bottle next to my plate. I offer a drop to my friends. I give them the option of lemon or peppermint. In restaurants, I have had people notice and ask about it. That is when I say a little something and give them a card with my web site address.

Use whatever oil you feel motivated to use at the moment but deliberately do it in front of people. If you are in a group of family or friends and there are kids who seem to be bouncing off the walls, pull out your Peace and Calming and do a quick swipe on the kids. Or, make a point to put some in the diffuser and say something about calming things down a bit.

There are all kinds of options here. Use your oils and then, if someone asks, tell why you love that oil.

3. Diffuse those oils when family comes over for dinner! Your house will smell great and people will notice. Set your diffuser out where people can see it. It is a conversation opener. “That’s my essential oil diffuser. I love diffusing essential oils to freshen the air and uplift the mood. Plus, diffusing is much healthier than the harmful chemicals in candles and room fresheners.”

4. Show and Tell – Have oils on display everywhere. Displaying the oils is one of the best ways to start conversations with friends and family. Don’t have them hidden away where no one can ask you about them! Not only oils but oil books, diffusers and anything oily. Put your Essential Oils Desk Reference on the coffee table.

Thieves foaming soap in the bathroom and by the kitchen sink. Vitality oils in the kitchen, a couple oils on the coffee table, display a couple supplements that you have a great story about.

I have Mineral Essence and Sulfurzyme sitting out for 2 reasons. 1. Reminder to take it. 2. I can tell my story.
Lately I love sharing my Sulfurzyme story and how taking Sulfurzyme to support my healthy joints, has caused an exciting side benefit: my gray hair has almost totally disappeared. I used to get lowlights to hide my grays. It has been many years since I have had anything done to hide the gray hairs.

Idea: I save all of my empty oil bottles. I save them for use in photos I share in Social Media. There are lots of uses for bottles in photos. I also sometimes need a Dietary label when I have been using the oil from a bottle with the other label. Must be compliant so I go grab one of the empties I have for the photo. I also have all of my empty bottles saved in baskets around my house. They are on display in beautiful hand made baskets made by my Mom and my sister Melissa Boice. They become beautiful oily works of art and conversation starters!! I’m sneaky that way. 😉 These oil displays around the house are a testament to my love and heavy use of oils without my even having to speak a word.

I took a few pictures around my house so you could see some examples. Read each caption. I tell why each thing is in the picture. Everything is thought out and placed around the house for a reason. I want oil conversations to come up naturally and feel totally comfortable for my friends and for ME!

Listen for opportunities to insert a mention about the oils, or share an oil. Swipe a bit of Stress Away on them or whatever. They have a headache? “Here. Try some of this peppermint. Just put a couple drops on back of neck, temples and inhale.” Or, try that same thing using Deep Relief. Just inhaling that one is awesome.
You are not selling just sharing. They might ask where they can get some right there but more than likely you are planting a seed.

Here is an example I heard from YL Diamond Jami Nato:

“Yesterday my neighbor and I were talking in our driveway. She had a friend with her. My neighbor’s friend as talking about a problem with her horse. I said, “I am such a hippie. I have something you should try.” I gave her some oils in a spray bottle to spray on her horse. I am a generous passer outer of my oils. I make up roller bottles and share. I was doing that before I made any money.”

Generosity will be a HUGE part of your business growing. You will often need to invest into people by giving them samples of an oil that has been helpful for you.
Example: Make a tantrum roller for the play date group (for a 10ml roller: 10 drops lavender, 5 drops orange, fill the rest with carrier, enjoy your life!)

You know what people are struggling with usually so I would say be thoughtful and meet a need here. Make the samples small and a good idea is to make them from the starter kit since you are always pointing arrows here. The starter kit is the best bang for your customer’s buck AND the best return for those building a business. It is a win win!

Your friends should be aware that you sell stuff. Don’t make a big stress over that. If you work at an office or a store, you don’t have any trouble telling people where you work. If you own a brick and mortar business, same thing.

Your oils business is no different. Let people know. You can just matter of fact say, “I love essential oils so much I decided to start my own essential oils business. I needed to earn enough to pay for my oil habit.”

Don’t make it weird. It’s just the fact. If you feel uncomfortable about it, they will feel it. If you are open and matter of fact, just stating the fact and not doing a sales pitch, it will feel completely natural.

With some friends you are more comfortable with you may feel like being more bold and playful:

“Yea. I do sell oils. Do you want to buy some?” Make a lighthearted comment. No big deal. Eventually some will become your customers. They will need what you have and, because you did not keep silent about your oil habit, they will know to come to you for help.

When you get into oil conversations you could add something like this: “I have been using Young Living Oils and supplements for a while now and I really love the products and way I feel so I decided I want to take advantage of Young Living’s income opportunity and earn enough to cover my oil habit, and, who knows, maybe build some extra income on top of that. I was just thinking, I would love for you to join me and we could do this together. It would be really fun!”

You can do as little or as much as you want with your Young Living business. It’s up to you. I started my YL business to cover the cost of my oils but it has grown into a full time income for myself and several family members.

.

You never know when you are going to have an opportunity to stir up some interest in your product or the business opportunity you represent. If you are anything like me, approaching strangers to start talking about your business or products feels uncomfortable. Most people feel uncomfortable with that.

Attract Prospects By Building Friendships
The best way to prospect is to make new friends. Widen out your contacts and connections. Once you put yourself out there and actually make new friends, real friends, you will have more people who may be interested in joining you on your lifestyle of health and freedom.

When you meet someone new, connect on Facebook or Instagram, right there on the spot. That way you can keep interacting with them on social media. Pay attention to their posts. Give a little love and comment. You are building relationships. When you post your oily lifestyle posts, they will be more likely to pay attention. Invite them to your oil classes.

Of course, the best place to start is with the friends you have right now. Do you have a few people you would love to join you on your journey of health and freedom? Have those people over for dinner, meet for lunch. Have a girls night or a ladies spa night or a spa time for moms. Invite the neighbors over for a backyard barbecue.

Don’t start talking oils or the business right away. Get to know each other. Let them know you like to live a healthy lifestyle with essential oils. This should come up naturally in the conversation because it is part of your life. Incite curiosity by having your oils and oil related products out everywhere. Wear your oils. You smell good. People sill ask about it. We have it pretty easy with essential oils because we can easily bring up the oils without even saying a word. I LOVE that!

Expanding your friends and contacts is one of the most valuable things you can do to build your business. The more people you know the better. There are lots of ways to find new connections that can grow into awesome friendships and some will join your oil community. Here are a few ideas:

Co-workers – Get to know them beyond a simple office connection.

Neighbors – Talk to your neighbors.

Strike up conversations wherever you happen to be — in line at the grocery store, start a conversation with someone around you.

Have a party – Have a casual dinner party or barbecue and invite your neighbors, people from work, or acquaintances you’ve bumped into along the way.

Have friends over for Game Night

Alumni Events – What are your classmates from high school and college doing now? Connect on Facebook and stay in touch with them regularly.

Join the gym, Health Club, Yoga, Spa – When you’re taking a break from working out, chat with your neighbors.

Community Events – Is your community hosting a 5 km run, doing a road cleanup, or hosting a free concert? Go out and participate.

Clubs and Groups – Join a club or local group of people who enjoy doing the same things as you. Become a regular and strike up conversations with other members. The possibilities are endless: Mom groups, business groups, book clubs, art clubs …
Check out www.meetup.com for some ideas for things going on in your area. There is a section on wellness:
    https://www.meetup.com/topics/wellness

Hiking or Walking your Dog – Strike up conversations with people on the path. People love to stop and chat about dogs.

Volunteer – Volunteering is a great way to meet people and get to know them better. Volunteer in areas that are meaningful and interesting to you.

Join Toastmasters or another speaking club – Speaking clubs not only give you the opportunity to meet people, you also get to practice your presentations and oil classes.

Farmers Market – The farmers market is always fun and full of people who love healthy eating. It is often a very social atmosphere.

Accept invitations – When people invite you to an event, GO! You never know who you’ll meet or what connections you might make.

Facebook or other social media – Social media is a good way to connect and get to know people. There are Facebook Groups with people of similar interests. Be regular in groups and comment. Connect with people who are similar. Don’t talk oils, just connect and friend. Commenting in the group before you start connecting with individuals will help them recognize you when you send a friend request. Even better, like or comment on one of their comments in the group.

Regardless of where you meet people, have conversations. Not salesy but real friendship. Love on people and be friendly. Serve people, help and share.

Keep in regular contact by whatever means you can. You should be talking with them as often as possible. You should know what their interests are and mention those in future conversations. Some of these people will become close friends. Some will be potential for the future. Make sure you invite any of these new contacts to your oil classes.

If you approach every stranger as a friend you haven’t met yet and just smile and say “HI!”, it will feel natural.

The key is to ALWAYS BE READY! Always ready to connect with people. That begins with being friendly and having a warm approachable energy that you sending out. Have a warm friendly smile on your face. Relax. Be yourself. Be friendly and likable.

When you are standing in a line at the grocery store or sitting in a waiting room or a variety of other places, there are often opportunities to talk to people. Are you aware and watching for these opportunities? Are you wearing your oils? I always have my Abundance oil on. It has started MANY conversations.

Well, there you have it. There are lots more but hopefully these ideas will help you get the wheels turning. Have fun!!

.

Here we are again starting another December. This is my 21st December with Young Living Essential Oils. Very early in my career I saw the need to keep momentum going through the months that most people let their business activity slow down or even come to a complete halt. One of the biggest times some go inactive is through the holiday season.

Slowing down your business activity during ANY season is a HUGE mistake.

    1. Smart, business builders know that December is actually the month you should be picking up the pace and getting ready for the best time of the year for business.

    Grow Young Living Business
This is the time many are thinking about increasing their income and are making goals for the new year. This actually starts on the 26th of December but January is a HUGE month for attracting new distributors. People go online and start searching for business opportunities. This is another reason you are insane if you aren’t learning how to improve your online marketing skills.

    2. While so many network marketers are snoozing in their business, it is much easier for you to get noticed, especially if you have been learning attraction marketing skills.

    3. Most people are more involved with social events and getting together with friends and family. This can present all kinds of opportunities to share your products or the business. Use Young Living products in front of people. Listen to what people are saying. Share your peppermint or DiGize after a big meal, Share a mood uplifting oil. Pay attention to the many openings for a conversation. Strategically place products around where guests will see them and USE Young Living products in front of people to stir interest and questions. Be prepared to share information.

If you slow down or stop business activities for large blocks of time, you backslide. If you are serious about building a successful network marketing business, you will be consistently working through ALL months. This is the way we make progress. Some months we make small steps forward and some we make large leaps.

.

You never know when you are going to have an opportunity to stir up some interest in the product or business opportunity. I have never been one who could easily approach strangers and start talking about my business or products. Maybe you feel uncomfortable with that too. Most of us feel that way.

There is a way to make talking with strangers feel natural and comfortable. If you approach every stranger as a friend you haven’t met yet and just smile and say “HI!”

The key is to ALWAYS BE READY! Always ready to connect with people. That begins with being friendly and having a warm approachable energy that you sending out.

When you are standing in a line at the grocery store or sitting in a waiting room or a variety of other places, there are often opportunities to stir interest in your product or business opportunity. Are you aware and watching for these opportunities?

One way to help get conversations started is to wear an article of clothing, jewelry or accessory with a company slogan or a product slogan.

I remember a wonderful pin we used to have that said, “May the Immupower be with you!” That one was great for getting people to ask questions. People were constantly asking what that meant. It was an easy opening for a conversation. I really wish Young Living would bring those back. Sadly I gave my last one as a distributor gift, not realizing it was my last one.

Think about what Young Living has that you can use to stimulate questions. Make sure you have something prepared to say when people ask questions. Also, be sure you are prepared to share a brochure, flyer or other prospecting item. It’s best if you can also get their phone number and arrange to meet for a one on one or invite to a class but also, get something in their hands. There is a spot on the back page of brochures to put your contact information. Don’t forget to do this. Be sure to include your web site address.

There are 3 things that will help you attract prospects wherever you go:

1. Have a warm friendly smile on your face.

2. Be conversational with people around you. Look people in the eye and say “Hello. How are you today?” Just be friendly and talk to people. If you appear stressed out and closed off, people will not want to talk. You will also find it difficult to talk to them. You must truly be in a warm and friendly mood. If not, you will repel people rather than attract them.

3. Use a product in front of people. Essential oils are easy to use in front of people and the smell often stimulates questions. I carry an oils pouch and often open it and apply an oil in front of people. My favorites are the ones that are mood uplifting and great smelling. Christmas Spirit or Abundance are the ones I use most because people will comment on how great it smells. I respond with, “I needed an emotional pick me up. Would you like to try a drop?” Then, depending on the level of interest, I often ask if they are familiar with therapeutic grade essential oils.

Well, there you have it. There are lots more ideas for building your Young Living business but hopefully these will help you get the wheels turning. Have fun!!

Have you ever noticed, when you go to the theater to see a movie, you can see familiar brands woven throughout the movie. Strategically placed products put there as subtle advertising. A few years ago I saw a documentary on television about advertising and how companies are actually paying to have their products placed in movies.

When I saw that documentary I started thinking about ways I could use a similar technique in my business advertising. Why not strategically place products and other items related to your business around for people to see and spark interest in Young Living products or business.

I have been doing this for years with some really funny results. My favorite is with Thieves Product Line. I keep a Thieves Foaming Hand Cleaner in every bathroom. Young Living has other foaming hand cleaners but the Thieves Story is priceless. People walk out of the bathroom with a smile and a question. They always want to know why it’s called Thieves. I LOVE that! I tell them the Thieves Story.

If you don’t know the Thieves Story, I recommend you get familiar with it.

When people ask questions, it is an opening to drip bits of information on them. Thieves products have a great story. Tell the Thieves Story!

The Story of Thieves Oil

Young Living’s Thieves essential oil blend was created based on the historical story of four thieves in Europe who protected themselves from the black plague with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing victims of the killer disease. When captured, they were offered a lighter sentence in exchange for their secret recipe. In modern days, these same herbs and essential oils have been found to be an effective barrier against topical and airborne microorganisms.

Young Living’s proprietary Thieves oil blend includes clove, cinnamon bark, rosemary, lemon, and Eucalyptus radiata and has been specially blended to offer the same kind of defense as it did in the fifteenth century.

Thieves oil has been university tested and found to be highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health.

Let’s face it, germs, bacteria and respiratory viruses that surround us have never been stronger, or more antibiotic-resistant. That’s why it’s more important than ever to keep your health on alert against attacks to your immune system.

I never start in on a sales pitch but I DO let them know I am a distributor for the products. I just drop bits of information and let them keep coming back with more questions. The conversation flows naturally and people often want to know how to get the products for themselves.

Young Living has so many great products that can be used as product placement advertising in your home or anywhere you happen to be. There are other ideas that are not Young Living products but you can use as conversation openers.

Young Living has lots of non-toxic personal care products, you could have those placed around but another good idea is to have the brochure, “Rub a Dub Dub. Is Cancer In Your Tub?” sitting out where people can see it. You could also have a copy of the tucked into the booklet. I love to show how people manufacturing products with Sodium Lauryl Sulfate are required to wear rubber suits and masks.

Other things you could place around to generate interest are company magazines, brochures about specific products and industry related books. Books related to network marketing or home business success. If you have been on company trips, have a few pictures framed and placed where people can see them.

There are loads of ideas for ways you can stimulate interest in your business or the products. Think about what you have available within your company. Place as many things around you as possible whether at work or at home in places where visitors will see things. Then be ready with something to say that may cause the visitor to want more information.
