Welcome to Young Living Business Builders. This website is brought to you by Melodie Kantner, Brandon Kantner and Melissa Boice.

We have been successfully building our Young Living business since 1997. This blog is about Young Living Business Success. Building your business in a way that feels natural and easy. I have always used and taught ways that get people to come to YOU. To ask YOU questions about the oils. I never liked the old style network marketing ways that make you feel icky.

If it’s not comfortable and FUN, it will be difficult to build a business. We are all about enjoying the journey.

If you want to achieve success in your Young Living business, you need consistent income producing activity. The key to success is consistency. If you want to be creating some exciting success in your team, you need to be taking action in your business on a consistent basis.

Taking small actions consistently over time can add up to some big results. If taking action is hard for you, if you have a hard time motivating yourself to call people or get out to network, there is a simple process that will make this so much easier for you. If you practice this little skill for even a couple of weeks, you will notice that taking action in your business feels as easy as putting on your shoes.

Just like building a muscle in your body, you start small. You want to do many repetitions, and then gradually add more weight.

Building an Activity Muscle

    Start small
    Many repetitions
    Gradually add weight

This activity will be helpful for those times that you feel like you are starting over after a period of time where you have found your activity dropping off. Things happen – Illness, a son or daughter getting married, depression, etc. You will have times when you need a reboot. I’m with you there. For me, postcard size flyers, leave behinds and drop cards directing people to my web site.

First step of building an activity muscle is to make a list of actions to grow your team.

Examples:

  • EVERY DAY wear an oil that will cause someone to comment on how good you smell (opening to say: “I’m wearing natural Essential Oils because I prefer a toxin free perfume. This one is called Stress Away. It smells great and who doesn’t want a little Stress Away these days? Have you ever used Essential Oils? …” Use Abundance, Stress Away or other oil choice. Mention what oil and why you like it. Be compliant. ) Have your 30 second commercial prepared (a brief word or two about how to get more information) and something printed with your referral link ready.

  • Pass out 3 or more flyers a day (invites to oil class, Toxin Free Living audio or other online presentation)
  • Connecting with 3 new people a day online or offline
  • More ideas below.

Once you have a list of actions, choose a couple things from that list and create a very simple action plan.
When you create your plan, add ONLY the actions you feel confident that you will actually complete.

Choose the easiest ones that you know you will follow through with and start with these. If connecting with 3 new people a day feels too hard, simplify it to ONE a day. You can add more as your activity muscle gets stronger. If daily feels too difficult, try a weekly goal. For example: If 3 flyers a day seems too stressful, set a goal for 5 a week or whatever feels right for you. Make sure you have plenty of flyers with you so you don’t miss opportunities.

You can always do more but for this first stem of the activity muscle process you want to UNDER PROMISE so it is easy for you to succeed.

You want to be able to say to yourself, “I can do that!” and then easily follow through. Your mindset is very important. Having the “I can do that!” belief will help you make progress much faster. Use Believe oil blend.

Second step is to reward yourself every time you follow through and complete those actions. This is very important because any behavior that gets rewarded becomes automatic. You can come up with any kind of reward you like but it should be something simple that brings a sense of joy or makes you feel good. These days I reward myself by painting, drawing or playing a game. Reward yourself with something fun. 😉

Don’t sweat the results. If you make several calls and no one seems interested in meeting with you or you host an event and no one buys anything, don’t sweat that. It’s ok. At this point you just want to be taking action and rewarding yourself when you follow through.

Some of those people who said no in the beginning will eventually see your success and the fun you are having and will want to join you. Stick with it and watch and see how that happens.

Keep working at building your activity muscle. After a couple weeks, you will get stronger, your confidence will grow and you will be able to do more. You may even find yourself taking on new things you thought you would never be able to do.

A Few Activity Ideas

  • EVERY DAY wear an oil that will cause someone to comment on how good you smell (opening to say: “I’m wearing natural Essential Oils because I prefer a toxin free perfume. This one is called Stress Away. It smells great and who doesn’t want a little Stress Away these days. Have you ever used Essential Oils? …” Use Abundance, Stress Away or other oil choice. Mention what oil and why you like it. Be compliant.) Then give them a flyer or card inviting them to an oil class, your Facebook oil class, toxin free living audio on your website.

  • Wear clothing, convention pins, bags and other things with YL Logo or oil related images that stir questions.
  • Have your 30 second commercial prepared and flyers or invites to oil classes or your web site ready.
  • Connecting with 1-3 new people a day online or offline
  • Take a picture of a way you are using oils in your life. Post the picture on Facebook or Instagram and mention why you like oils.

Distributors often look at successful people with Young Living and they see the results they have had and they start comparing their own results or lack of results. Sometimes they assume that the successful people had some magic system or they had a huge marketing budget or they just lucked out and sponsored workers in their downline. Some even put it up to having the right upline.

When you are looking at the successful distributors in Young Living, you need to look at their habits. It’s their daily habits that are the reason they are successful in Young Living.

What are the habits of successful Young Living Distributors?

    • They know they are the CEO of their own business. They know success is up to them. They go by the philosophy, “If it is to be, it’s up to ME.
    • They focus on their WHY. Why they want a successful business.
    • They are prospecting to 10-20 people a day rather than one or 2 a month.
    • They check their email and respond quickly to emails or phone calls.
    • They follow up on interest.
    • They know the importance of DAILY personal development: reading books, newsletters, audios.
    • They attend Young Living Events in their local area or state.
    • They attend Grand Convention.
    • They listen to conference calls and replays of calls when they can’t be on the live call.
    • They are paying attention to company news: Upline newsletters, company newsletters, conference calls, Facebook Groups, etc.
    • They set goals and work toward them.
    • They don’t wait until they know each and every step before they take even one. They just get started.
    • They focus on abundance instead of lack.

Here is a poem I have loved for several years:

    habit
I Can Make You Great or I Can Make You A Failure

    WHO am I?

Let me give you some clues. Exactly WHO IS ME?

    I am your constant companion.

I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden.

I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.

I am completely at your command.

Half of the things you do you might as well turn
over to me and I will do them – quickly and correctly.

I am easily managed – you must be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want something done
and after a few lessons, I will do it automatically.

I am the servant of great people, and alas, of all failures as well.

    I MAKE GREAT PEOPLE—-That is a CLUE.

Those who are great, I have made great.

Those who are failures, I have made failures.

    I am not a machine though, however . . .

I work with the precision of a machine
plus the intelligence of a person.

You may run me for profit or run me for ruin –
it makes no difference to me.

Take me, train me, be firm with me, and
I will place the world at your feet.

Be easy with me and I will destroy you.

    Who am I?

    I am HABIT.

January is always an exciting month. It’s a new year and lots of people have set resolutions to increase income and make other changes in their life. It is a great time to turn things up a notch or two in your business. Set your goals and move forward to success. I love the statement one of my mentors often said, “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going.” Make adjustments as you are going. It’s like moving a car. You have to be moving before you can make a turn.

    Have a very successful Year!

    .

You have a gift you can share your family and friends, but it can feel uncomfortable talking about it. You may worry that they will think you are just trying to make a sale. It doesn’t have to be uncomfortable. Just a little mental shift is all it takes.

When you love something you easily talk about it. Think of something else in your life that you love talking about but you don’t have any potential to earn money from. You just naturally talk about it.

For example. I am a artist. Over the years I have dabbled in various forms of art. Examples are drawing, oil painting, watercolor, and copper enamel jewelry making. Lately combining my copper enamel pieces with gemstones and lava stone for unique diffuser jewelry. The point is, I love art and I naturally talk about it. I even sell my art but that doesn’t make me afraid to talk about it.

Talking about what you love feels totally normal. When you are talking about your love for your art, or whatever is fun and exciting for you, it is easy to talk about and will naturally come up in conversations.

This is the mindset you need to have with your oils and healthy lifestyle. Whether you are going out or you are having friends over or chatting up friends on social media, you can be a walking advertisement for the oily lifestyle.

Secret Tip – Get Them to Ask YOU

Do you want to know a few secrets to get people to ask YOU about the oils without you even bringing it up?

That’s my absolute FAVORITE way to get oil conversations started with my friends and family. I make THEM bring it up.

There are LOTS of awesome ways to do this. Here are a few tips and make sure you don’t miss the slides with captions below.

    1. Wear your oils. You will smell wonderful when you walk in and people will notice. Many will ask, “What smells so good?” That’s your open door to step through and make an brief comment. Not a sales pitch. Just a comment, “Oh that’s my Stress Away oil. I wear that one on those crazy days.

I love Abundance oil and I wear it everywhere. It smells wonderful and MANY people ask about it. Strangers comment on how wonderful it smells. One old friend told me he liked to hug me because always felt better when he could get a good whiff of my oil. Abundance oil is the reason I started with Young Living 27 years ago. At the time, I was very depressed because of our financial situation Abundance oil is very mood uplifting. Someone shared a couple drops with me. It lifted me up within minutes and I was stunned at how fast it worked. I had to get my own bottle!

    2. Use oils in front of people. Carry oils with you wherever you go. I have an oil bag in my purse that fits several oils I like to use deliberately in front of people. It has Peppermint, lemon, Joy, Abundance, DiGize, Stress Away, and whatever else moves me at the moment.
Peppermint or lemon I will put on the dinner table and add a drop to my water. In a restaurant, when at a friend’s house for dinner or when someone comes to dinner at my house. I deliberately sit the bottle next to my plate. I offer a drop to my friends. I give them the option of lemon or peppermint. In restaurants, I have had people notice and ask about it. That is when I say a little something and give them a card with my web site address.

Use whatever oil you feel motivated to use at the moment but deliberately do it in front of people. If you are in a group of family or friends and there are kids who seem to be bouncing off the walls, pull out your Peace and Calming and do a quick swipe on the kids. Or, make a point to put some in the diffuser and say something about calming things down a bit.

There are all kinds of options here. Use your oils and then, if someone asks, tell why you love that oil.

    3. Diffuse those oils when family comes over for dinner! Your house will smell great and people will notice. Set your diffuser out where people can see it. It is a conversation opener. “That’s my essential oil diffuser. I love diffusing essential oils to freshen the air and uplift the mood. Plus, diffusing is much healthier than the harmful chemicals in candles and room fresheners.”

    4. Show and Tell – Have oils on display everywhere. Displaying the oils is one of the best ways to start conversations with friends and family. Don’t have them hidden away where no one can ask you about them! Not only oils but oil books, diffusers and anything oily. Put your Essential Oils Desk Reference on the coffee table.

Thieves foaming soap in the bathroom and by the kitchen sink. Vitality oils in the kitchen, a couple oils on the coffee table, display a couple supplements that you have a great story about.

I have Mineral Essence and Sulfurzyme sitting out for 2 reasons. 1. Reminder to take it. 2. I can tell my story.
Lately I love sharing my Sulfurzyme story and how taking Sulfurzyme to support my healthy joints, has caused an exciting side benefit: my gray hair has almost totally disappeared. I used to get lowlights to hide my grays. It has been many years since I have had anything done to hide the gray hairs.

Idea: I save all of my empty oil bottles. I save them for use in photos I share in Social Media. There are lots of uses for bottles in photos. I also sometimes need a Dietary label when I have been using the oil from a bottle with the other label. Must be compliant so I go grab one of the empties I have for the photo. I also have all of my empty bottles saved in baskets around my house. They are on display in beautiful hand made baskets made by my Mom and my sister Melissa Boice. They become beautiful oily works of art and conversation starters!! I’m sneaky that way. 😉 These oil displays around the house are a testament to my love and heavy use of oils without my even having to speak a word.

I took a few pictures around my house so you could see some examples. Read each caption. I tell why each thing is in the picture. Everything is thought out and placed around the house for a reason. I want oil conversations to come up naturally and feel totally comfortable for my friends and for ME!

Click the arrows or the dots to see each picture and story.

Listen for opportunities to insert a mention about the oils, or share an oil. Swipe a bit of Stress Away on them or whatever. They have a headache? “Here. Try some of this peppermint. Just put a couple drops on back of neck, temples and inhale.” Or, try that same thing using Deep Relief. Just inhaling that one is awesome.
You are not selling just sharing. They might ask where they can get some right there but more than likely you are planting a seed.

Here is an example I heard from YL Diamond Jami Nato:

“Yesterday my neighbor and I were talking in our driveway. She had a friend with her. My neighbor’s friend as talking about a problem with her horse. I said, “I am such a hippie. I have something you should try.” I gave her some oils in a spray bottle to spray on her horse. I am a generous passer outer of my oils. I make up roller bottles and share. I was doing that before I made any money.”

Generosity will be a HUGE part of your business growing. You will often need to invest into people by giving them samples of an oil that has been helpful for you.
Example: Make a tantrum roller for the play date group (for a 10ml roller: 10 drops lavender, 5 drops orange, fill the rest with carrier, enjoy your life!)

You know what people are struggling with usually so I would say be thoughtful and meet a need here. Make the samples small and a good idea is to make them from the starter kit since you are always pointing arrows here. The starter kit is the best bang for your customer’s buck AND the best return for those building a business. It is a win win!

Your friends should be aware that you sell stuff. Don’t make a big stress over that. If you work at an office or a store, you don’t have any trouble telling people where you work. If you own a brick and mortar business, same thing.

Your oils business is no different. Let people know. You can just matter of fact say, “I love essential oils so much I decided to start my own essential oils business. I needed to earn enough to pay for my oil habit.”

Don’t make it weird. It’s just the fact. If you feel uncomfortable about it, they will feel it. If you are open and matter of fact, just stating the fact and not doing a sales pitch, it will feel completely natural.

With some friends you are more comfortable with you may feel like being more bold and playful:

“Yea. I do sell oils. Do you want to buy some?” Make a lighthearted comment. No big deal. Eventually some will become your customers. They will need what you have and, because you did not keep silent about your oil habit, they will know to come to you for help.

When you get into oil conversations you could add something like this: “I have been using Young Living Oils and supplements for a while now and I really love the products and way I feel so I decided I want to take advantage of Young Living’s income opportunity and earn enough to cover my oil habit, and, who knows, maybe build some extra income on top of that. I was just thinking, I would love for you to join me and we could do this together. It would be really fun!”

You can do as little or as much as you want with your Young Living business. It’s up to you. I started my YL business to cover the cost of my oils but it has grown into a full time income for myself and several family members.

“You will become what you think about most; your success or failure in anything, large or small, will depend on your programming—what you accept from others, and what you say when you talk to yourself.” ― Shad Helmstetter, What To Say When You Talk To Your Self

“Repetition is a convincing argument.” ― Shad Helmstetter, What To Say When You Talk To Your Self

Those are two quotes from one of my favorite books. I always recommend anyone who wants success in anything read it. Whether you want success in building your Young Living Business or success in health and fitness goals, the words we are saying over and over have a powerful impact on your success in any endeavor.

The more you say the same things over and over to yourself the more you internalize it. Young Living Business Success
For instance, if you have fears about building a successful Young Living Business and you are repeating negative words in your head or speaking them out loud, they become reality.

Here are a few common statements people struggle with as they are building their business:

  • It’s hard to find people to sign up in my business
  • I keep getting team members who don’t stay in the business
  • I have so much doubt about being successful
  • I keep getting rejected when I try to tell others about my business
  • I’m not making the money I want, I’m broke and desperate for more money
  • Can you hear yourself saying this or something similar?

Another area to watch out for is your vocabulary about money. Do you find yourself using words like “hard-earned money” or “I can’t afford that”? Usually you don’t even notice you are using self-defeating language. We all struggle with it but if you make an effort to stop and switch to some better words, it is possible to get in the habit of better self talk.

Michael Losier teaches: Each time you hear yourself talk about what you DON’T want, and each time you hear yourself complain or observe what you DON’T want, or catch yourself in a negative self-talk pattern, ask yourself this question:

    So, what do I want?

    Change the words.

    What I DON’T want
    What I DO want

It’s hard to find people to sign up in my business
    To easily attract people

I keep getting team members who don’t stay in the business
Team members who eagerly grow their businesses

I have so much doubt about being successful
    My confidence grows every day

I keep getting rejected when I try to tell others about my business
I’m attracting people who want to know more about my business and join me

I’m not making the money I want. I’m broke and desperate for more money
My income increases steadily. I have a surplus and abundance of money

I like to take these statements and make them into affirmations and gratitude statements that I repeat when I need to shift out of a negative attitude.
    Examples:

I am grateful that I am easily attracting people.
I am grateful that I am attracting customers and motivated team members who eagerly grow their businesses.
I am grateful that my income increases steadily. I have a surplus and abundance of money.

Notice that these statements also include the words “I am”. Not only is gratitude one of the most powerful positive emotions, “I am” puts it in the NOW! Add essential oils to your affirmations and power them up even more.

Some oils to consider with your positive self talk:
    Abundance
    Believe
    Envision
    Gratitude
    Motivation

There are other oils you could use. Just go with what feels right in the moment.

Remember, when you catch yourself with negative self talk, just stop, mentally say, “Delete” and switch to what you DO want.

Secret to Young Living Business Success
You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” ~ John C. Maxwell

That’s a great quote by John C. Maxwell. Successful Young Living business builders know they need to do a few things every day that move them forward in their business. What is your daily routine like? It is a good idea to step back once in a while and think about what you are doing in your business. Are you really doing things that are going to help you progress toward your goals?

Being consistent has everything to do with your vision. If you have a vision of who you want to be and what you want your business and your life to look like, this will drive your daily activities. If you are struggling with consistency, you likely have a weak vision of what you want your business to look like. You need to get clear on what you want your life and your business to look like.

Write your vision on a note card. Try to be as detailed as possible as you write a picture of what your success will look like. Spend a few minutes every morning reading your card and thinking about your vision. Picture yourself already achieving your goals.

When you create and then focus on your vision. This will help drive you to do your daily routine.

In your Daily Routine you should:

    1. Talk to people – Every day, talk to as many people as possible: in person, on Facebook, through email, on the phone or whatever means you have. Drop tidbits that spark interest, leave brochures, leave behinds, drop cards, product placement, etc to spark conversations. Send people to your web site. Never give any piece of marketing material without your web site on it.

    2. Study – You need to spend a little time each day on personal development. The ones who do this are the ones who get the best results. I still do this daily, even after 26 years in Young Living and 28 years in network marketing. We all need to be serious about personal development.

    3. Attend company events – People often say they can’t afford to go to events, they aren’t making enough money or that they don’t know what they are doing. Attending company events will help you in these areas.

Another way to keep your vision in front of you is to create a Mind Movie or a Vision Board that you will look at every day. You can also use the Mind Movie I created for you.
